[If your wondering this is the studio project my group in photography did 2 years ago. I have hundreds more, most of which are of me getting my butt kicked by two other girls lol Plus this is right after I cut my long hair. Plus for Fun, can you point out the differences between me and my current avatar, besides clothing! lol]

Name: Jair(Pet name for jeremiah), Ranma(or Ron, my dad calls me lol)

Age: 18 (Birthdate: August 8, 1987)

Height: 5'6

Weight 145 lb

Eyes: Brown

Hair: Brown(Blonde in sun too long lol)

Fav. Color: Black and Red

Role in Group of Friends: I used to be just a loner or a silent aid in groups. Recently however I've been speaking up more and i've gotten healthier and stronger. I've become more of a leader now in groups and that usually leads us into trouble sweatdrop.gif

Fashion Style: I have three! I'm mostly in sunday dress(Because of job), When I'm training or screwing around with friends I'm wearing my Gi or orental Attire(Yes I actually wear chinese clothing, I'll show you later in pictures), and finally normal clothing: jeans, w/b undershirt, and cover shirt.

Bio: Believe it or not but I hated anime for most of my childhood. Mainlt because my Older sister had nothing better to do but watch it.
I was always into martial arts and kung fu, but I never once like anime!
Now that I look back at it all, I wonder why I hated it? Mainly because it looked stupid and the first series I watched was Evangelion and Everybody died on it and it made me mad. I didn't watch anime again for some time after that. Plus everybody in my class had a manga or was talking about some new anime they watched. I wan't very popular with many people and I didn't want to be like any of them, so that was probably the main reason.
I took kung fu for about 5 years and quit(mainly because moving around)
I started again in Karate but they were all jerks and told me everything I learned before was wrong(I quit after a few weeks)
Now I do solo training and learn from friends at martial arts groups in colleges in my area.
But how did I become to start loving anime? lol
You guessed it, my older sister Angel!
Well, she basicly started the cycle again. Daniel kept my interest permantly in my system.
My sister introduced me to mature anime(Almost hentai) because she thought I was old enough to handle it. Well being a young man and all, anything with nudity kept my focus and attention lol. I can't remember which series it was, probably Love Hina. Well to continue, right before I quit my classes Daniel and I were screwing around out back. There was a chain link fence outside. Yep lets see who can walk it lol. Daniel kept screwing up, I did too plus I got my pants caught in it lol. but I finally walk it back and forth. After he pushed me off the fence for rubbing his nose in his failure. he called me a name I'd never forget, Ranma. Mainly to call me gay(Which I'm not)
I had really long hair at the time(about 2.5-3 ft long) and most people thought I was a girl when they didn't see my face. Plus daniel kept calling me Ranma, whiched [censored]ed me off at the time. I knew Ranma was some kinda japanese name and probably one of his anime things. He later showed me a Ranma 1/2 manga, which I borrowed. I will never make fun of anime and manga again.
I will never forget daniel(Because his number is in my adress book). Thanks man, for showing me the world of anime.

Look at my avatar= Scooter, from The Muppet Show. I guess I should have mentioned that in my vague age clues that I'm also old enough to remember watching the original Muppet Show, seen the original three Star Wars movies and the first six Star Trek movies first run. I even had an original Kenner "Darth Vader" action figure. Until my sister (who's six years older than me) bit his head off.

And you're not alone Ranma sad.gif I hated Evangelion too! I really didn't know it would get so serious toward the end!!! I was petrified, but I immediately went to the less serious and funny anime to relieve me.

Oh! And Hitodama! I didn't know you liked cats! I like cats too ! wave.gif Her name's Soupy. I don't know where that name originated from so don't ask ^^;; I was merely a five year old kid...with nothing else in her brain?

And nifty Ranma. I don't know much about the different lineages in my family, cept my mom's scottish (judging by last name), and my dad's english. but I know (cause my aunt was super cool and did geneology back on that side of the family up until William the Conqueror 0_0 )) so I know I have french, and some scandinavian if you go way way way way back, up one line.

Ah, but I seem to recall that Rome's borders once stretched from Britain to Persia. And that it was once said that the sun never set on the British Empire.

Let's see...Germany had it's naval tail walloped by the Grand Fleet at Jutland, even if the Imperial High Seas fleet did sink more RN tonnage; hiding in shame until the Armistice.
Germany allowed an Austrian corporal to assume power, and lead the German Army into disaster in Soviet Russia. (Gotta love Generals Winter, Snow, and Mud comrade)

Of course, Rome did eventually fall; the sun did eventually set on the British Empire (but not the Commonwealth!), and the Soviet Union and Soviet client-states in Eastern Europe showed the world the folly of Marxist-Leninism. But the Irish are still draining the pubs dry in Ireland!

Aw you guys are so lucky. I'm just.. Korean. unsure.gif

I now know how these drug adicts feel like. Example: I meet this new girl, she likes the same things I like, she hates the same things I hate, she's gorgious, she's single, and I know I can't ask her out because I'm leaving soon. crying.gif

hahaaww I"m sure you'll find someone after moving too.

I'm single. I'm not sure if I'm mature enough to handle dating yet.. and well, I get a bit picky. For example, if that person and I can't keep a conversation going for a long time without getting tired of one another, then there's a problem. And I don't like awkward situations so if I feel awkward more than a few times.. then I freak out and run away. (Once again, maturity is a big deal in my case) I'm okay though, I have many, many years ahead of me.

1) We teepeed 3 houses
2) We got into a shopping cart(From walmart) and we pulled up to Taco bell and ordered. They gave us free taco's. We were going to go on the road with the cart, but that was to dangerous.(FYI- we also took that same cart the next day to autozone and went up to a sales guy and told him there was something wrong with our car. "Whats wrong with it?" "Well it won't start!" "Well then where is it?" "Its in that parking space there" points to parking spot with cart lol sales guy laughed, manager got mad)
3) We played Paintball, but we didn't use paintball guns blink.gif (I used a pellet gun, David used his little pump pellet pistel, and the other guys had bb guns lol) Thank God no one lost an eye!
4) Most of the guys went home to their girls, I got dumped by mine and got nuthing but abstinence lol deadtongue.gif heh.gif

QUESTION: How often do you cry?

Does this mean we should dub thee "Soun-Hana"? laugh.gif

Let's see...I tear up when watching most war movies, especially now that I've shared in some of what the soldiers they're portraying have gone through; Memorial and Veteran's Days; whenever I hear Toby Keith's An American Soldier; and I nearly lost it at work, giving the high school students a talk on "Why Memorial Day is important to me".

To Cry or not to Cry? dry.gif

Hmmm well for starters I never Cry in public, enless of course I'm screwing around and get Smack in a sensitive area. crying.gif Which has happened more than a few times. sweeeet.gif
I actually forced myself to cry once! We watched this movie which was sad and all. Then I went to bed and turned on some music, which happened to be Evanecence at the moment. Which made me feel a little uneasy. Then I Decided I should just cry, Why....I had no Idea lol. Then I started to recall thngs that actually made me cry before: When I lost my mother. When I got beat up all the time at school(I was like 8), when I had long hair and people called me hippy and gay and last but not least every single time/moment a girl had dump me.
Now if thats not sad, then You should take a day and do everything possible to remember all the harsh times and see what happens.
But that was the last time I cried. lol I cried for about an hour lol.
(Plus I'm using this story as back up. If lets say I get a new girlfriend or something and she just happens to be crying, then I can come up with something to comfort her, if she smacks me and say: "You don't know what its like to feel this way!") For all the guys out there you'll hear this at least once in your lifetime lol laugh.gif
Well thats my crying story.

Also The past is the past. Your bound to get hurt sometime or another. If you get hurt just remember to take the bad with the good. Thats life, if you can't deal with pain and defeat; Then you might as well give up now. I've had a lot of Horrible things happen to me so far and I'm sure theres more to come, but I'll never let any of that get me down. I'm going to live life to the fullest.
So lets go skydiving blink.gif

Name: Chevis (Odd name huh? Better n' Clarence though. Unique-ness is kewlies )
Age: 16 as of now. 17 in just one week! (May 13th)
Eyes: Brown with yellow hue.
Height: 5'7''
Fav Colors: Hmm... Blue the most. black, red, certain shades of yellow and purple, white... umm... yea. I like colors.
Fav Anime/Manga: I think that's pretty obvious...
Fav Aircraft: F/A-22 Raptor, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, F/A-18 Hornet F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, MiG-29 Fulcrum, P-38 Lighting, F4U Corsair, P-51 Mustang, B-17 Bomber, and the B-2 Bomber. Thats all I can think of for now.
Highly liked/respected Aircraft: F-15 Eagle, F-14 Tomcat, F-16 Falcon, umm... ect.
-----------------------------------------------
I could of sworn I posted that. =_=.gif

I, personally, have no qualms with crying. It's a good way to release negative energy, but it's so much better when you have someone to lean on afterwards... I agree with Ranma-kun on the "Also The past is the past. Your bound to get hurt sometime or another. If you get hurt just remember to take the bad with the good. Thats life, if you can't deal with pain and defeat; Then you might as well give up now." statement... Well.. 73. Reply by: Ranma

2006-06-14, 11:23 AM

Here it comes! sweatdrop.gif
For all those who think that looks arn't important, your full of *Beep*! There are hidden laws that our bodies are governed by when it comes to mates and mating and such. The first law being: Attraction-A physical liking which such is appealing to another.(The only exception to this rule is if you fall in love with a long/short time friend whom you at first weren't necessarily physcialy attractive to, but in terms came to notice a bond or liking in similar qualities) The second law Being: Similarities: Attitude, Personality, Habits/Hobbies, Morals/Views, and Natural laws. Attitude/Personality- Both of these qualities are very similar. They are similar in the fact that ones attitude reflects ones personality, However ones attitude can also oppose ones personality. It is important that one studies and reflects upon anothers attitude/personality, for the second law can quickly override the first law and turn one away. Habits/Hobbies- One can quickly see and pick up/repulsed by ones habits/hobbies such as language, accents, fashion, physical/mental activities, food, social and living qualities. These things are usually noticed through out ones courtship or social interactions with another and can also be a determining factor between a long term relationship or a break up. Morals/Views- These things are usually harder to determine and maybe violently defended. However once a relationship has been established or even before one was even considered the concept of ones views and likeness are compared to ones own. But ones views and morals can easily be ignored during courtship, however it is important to consider these things within a partner before a relationship goes to deep. Once living abilities and child bearing come into play, Morals and Values become a ruling factor. Natural laws- which consit of longevity and child bearing/raising. These things are also usually ignored till the concept of marriage or the need to leave ones name/pride after ones death.

You know what I've been righting this for about 4 hours now, sense I'm at work and bored lol. I'm tired now, I going on break in like 2 minutes so I'm going to finish this up lol
OK now here is my personal answer to the questions: What do you see attractive in the other secks (or same secks if you prefer) lol sweatdrop.gif
I'm not as concerned about physical appearence, but I am attractive to women who are physicaly fit: Those who are athletic, meaning women who have some muscle on them.
I like women who think like me(Ask later for details lol haha). who are active, work out, but the main thing I'm really looking for in a woman is 'Does she want children?'
If the answer is no then I'lol have to say good bye lol.
I know I'm young(18) and I shouldn't really care right now, but I do!
If you ask me what career I want to persue: I want to be a father and really nothing else.
I love kids and I want to raise kids(Hitlers army lol). So if a woman where to say yes I want kids. Then thats a go for me.
Break time- I'll edit and finish later. heh.gif

laugh.gif Thinking about children is thinking pretty far ahead..

But I admit, I have thought about children and how many I'm going to have.. their clothes, their education, and everything else.. but I don't think I'd leave the one I love because he didn't want children. I'd persuade him.. somehow first, and maybe "accidentally" get pregnant. hahah

I think the person most important in my life in the future will be my husband. My children would be important too, but it's my spouse that I'm with for the rest of my life. I'm only going to be with the kids while they still need me, and when they leave, my husband and I will still be together. (hoping that we both are still in love wtih each other.. at least a little)

Be careful if you even think about that, Hana-chan. That's 18 to 21 years minimum of resentment on the part of the person you thought you loved. Divorce, especially with children, is not a pretty thing. My sister is going through her second divorce with three children. Her ex'll have to pay child support for the next 18 years, until their youngest is out of college.

I will in no way be having kids. Little children annoy me. ^-^() Teeehee. Anyway, that was very blunt. But I'm happy for those of you who want them. Please raise them well and keep them away from overly-vibrato pop singers and drugs!

77. Reply by: sour_hana

2006-06-15, 09:35 PM

Well you can explain if you want, but you don't have to - its up to you smile.gif And I wasn't saying that love's all you need of course. The main idea of that paragraph was to explain the order of my priorities in family relations. I know the compatibility is important; compatibility is important in all relationships whether its a lover or friend, so i've experienced its significance too. (Although spouse to spouse matching is probably more important than a friend to friend match)

And the "accidentally getting pregnant".. Of course I wouldn't do that! It wouldn't solve anything to not compromise and settle on an agreement and just get a baby. It would be selfish on my part and could turn out to be too much of a risk in my relationship with my husband. It was a joke heh.gif

Children... I just want children because it's something I want to experience in life. I think I'd regret not knowing what it feels like to raise a child (or two) as your own. Especially, to feel the great love for your child, a love that isn't like any other kind of affection you've shown.

I will, hopefully, returning to college this coming fall to finish out my sophmore year (finally!) and move on to my junior year. Requiring to work full time, Nat'l Guard state missions, and a Nat'l Guard mobilization to the Sandbox does wonders for one's academic endeavours. Assuming 1 being the worst and 10 being the best:

I rate my life 3.4. For the simple fact I'm in the middle of a nasty divorce where my ex is contesting me on every little thing (no kids, though, thank God), my job stinks (even though it's a job, which I am thankful for), and the person I am actually in love with is 20 thousand miles away.

I'd say my life is a 5. It's not all that bad but it's not all that good. Or maybe, I'm just really spoiled, and I just want more in life so I say 5 instead of 6 or 7. sweatdrop.gif Or it could be that my mood is a 5 right now, and I'm just thinking like a 5 person.

Because: I'm about to lose my job next monday, I'm moving 2000 miles across country to go to college, I'm going to be living alone for the first time ever, provide for myself, and hope to get through school, life, and all that starts in 4 weeks. ph34r.gif
I guess theres an upside, nobody will be borrowing my stuff anymore.
My dad just came in here in the middle of typing this and wanted to "borrow" the keyboard for a "Second" because he broke his. Its now 83 minutes later and I'm using the computers Digital keyboard(The one where you click the letter/number by mouse on the computer). Its pretty hard to do! mad.gif

Not playing much now, because not all of my personal property has returned from Iraq.

I wouldn't mind being a fighter pilot. After all, being able to fly through the air at Mach 2, pull 9Gs in 90 degree bank turns, and climb to the edge of space is my idea of fun. Then again, I've also always wanted to be an astronaut, and explore the limits of known space.

Of course, winning MegaMillions when it's in triple digits, buying a tropical island in the South Pacific, declaring it my own nation and retiring as a political leader has also been a pipe dream of mine as well.

Hito-kun, if you're up for it, you just might get that cruiser you wanted. Granted she's about 60 years old, but seems to be in prime shape. All you need to be is my Defense Minister.

Hey guys, finally back.
Actually today is the first time in 2 weeks since i been home.
I've been in the hospital for 18 days. I was in a BAD Car Crash.
Well to sum it up I stopped at an intersection and I was the only one on my side, the light turned green, I pulled off and then I woke up in the hospital with my parents crying there eyes out crying.gif heh.gif
What happened was two cars were racing and the light was yellow for them even though they were a mile down the road. The two guys in the mustang slamed into me, I went airborn and rolled. I was knocked out instantly, but the two guys in the other car died on sight.
My car is GONE! I saw pictures of it and I'm even wondering how i lived lol blink.gif
Both my legs are broken, my right leg is broken in 4 places. My left wrist is fractured, I have one broken rib, plus I was unconcious for 13 hours. I finally got to go home today, but I have to go back daily for stupid crap.
I have lots of other problem from the crash, but I'm tired right now. I'll post more tomorrow.

p.s. Don't tell me to get better, because i've heard it for 2 weeks already. laugh.gif

Damn, you're lucky. And be really glad that you survived with what you did. A crash like that could have been worse, a lot worse.

*settles down into a rocker, wrapping an afghan around his legs* It's war story time...

About ten years ago, on Memorial Day Weekend, there was a motor vehicle accident in my town. Two kids had gotten ahold of a BMW 850i, with the 12 cylinder engine, and were out joy-riding. They lost control, and slammed into the left front fender of a parked Ford F-350 dump truck, slid along the driver's side with around 6 inches of penetration into the passenger compartment. We evac'd the passenger to a local hospital, the driver was medevac'd to the local trauma center. During the (short) ride to the chopper, we were suctioning all sorts of body fluids, including cerebrospinal fluid and brain tissue. Suffice to say, he died in the OR, because of the level and type of trauma he'd suffered.

So remember kids, know your car, know your capabilities, and for Christ's sake, don't treat your car as a toy. Too Fast, Too Furious is just a movie; read the script.

Speaking of war, I just finished the American Revolution in my class smile.gif Not interesting sad.gif

I guess i"ll put out another question before this topic is put out. Get itT?? like a candle is being "put out"

Whats the most random thing you know?

Mine: 25,000 people died in the Revolution & 250,000 - 500,000 were loyalists in the colonies

Uhhh lets seeee another question.

What do you want for Christmas?

156. Reply by: Scooter

2006-10-20, 05:52 AM

Actually, Hana, the study of history requires the right instructor. If your teacher just stands there and lectures, then it can get really boring. But if they get interactive, and make the course interesting, then history can be interesting. For example, were I to teach the American Revolution, I'd set the class up into a Continental Congress and Army; and have them fight the war, after giving a brief lecture on the Revolution. Make it interesting, grab their attention and hold it, is my personal philosophy.

The most random thing I know is in the category: Family History. Ancestors on my mother's side owned a major share in the Mayflower (The St. Johns), and therefore kicked out of every decent European country. Other family members were from Jamestown (The Hargroves). Somewhere in one of the Southern States, there's a family feud between the Hargroves and one other family, a la Hatfields and McCoys. And during the Revolution, the Hargroves were Loyalists.

So, enough about family history...

As for what I want for Christmas? Eithet my two front teeth or plane tickets to the island of Mindanao, in the Philippines.

Thank you, Hana. How I was introduces to Ranma 1/2: I was first into InuYasha (which is why I am Naraku*Slayer11), and then a friend reccomended Ranma 1/2 and I really got into it ever since then. Yup. And Studdevil, how about N*S? or Naraku, which ever you prefer. happy.gif

P.S. Studdevil- Is it Stud-devil or Studd-evil? and do you mind me calling you stud? Studdy? Stud-Sama? heh.gif

HAHAHAHHAH STUD-SAMA. That's cute.

Anyhow, which do you prefer: InuYasha or Ranma? This question is FOR EVERYONE.

I like Ranma1/2 more because the storyline is a one of a kind. InuYasha is too, but Ranma's even more crazy.

You're all nuts. All of you. Anyway, welcome N-chan (if you don't mind) to the funny farm.

As for Ranma or Inu-Yasha? I never could get into Inu-Yasha. But diving into Ranma was rather easy. Magical curses? Sure, I've seen enough playing D&D. Really weird martial arts? Hey, it's anime, and anything's possible in anime.

Suffice to say, no. However, I have met authors P.N. Elrod and Peter David; actors Walter Koening (Pavel Chekov [Star Trek] and Alfred Bester [Babylon 5]) and Jerry Doyle (Michael Garibaldi [Babylon 5]), and ran into (not literally) George Lucas. Peter David and Jerry Doyle were at a local sci-fi convention out at SUNY Stony Brook. P.N. Elrod and Walter Koening were at a sci-fi convention in Dallas.

My running into George Lucas is kind of interesting. I was providing supplemental security at Teterboro Airport, as a member of the NJ Army Guard, and during my checks of the various flight service centers, I saw someone who looked really familiar, but couldn't, for the life of me, identify him. I asked one of the girls behind the counter if that was Lucas, and they confirmed it. Of course, being the smart, yet rabid fanboy, I kept my mouth shut, since the airport wasn't the best place to start talking to him or ask for an autograph.

Ranma 1/2? No. Inu-Yasha, Yes. My older brother sometimes looks like Miroku, but barely. So I don't really know anyone who CLOSELY resembles a Takahashi character.

Yeah. I have heard that a lot for some reason, you are not the first. And, it's not just New Jersey that is extremely bureaucratic. Try living in my state. Everything is just, "Sign this, Fill in that, please print only at the line on the bottom of this form". To really get a taste of it though, I would had to have been there. I am planning to go to NY between now and a few months, so I may use some extra money to go next door. But it's a bit scary, since New Jersey has probably the biggest crime rate in the US. Either that, or New York City.

The world would be so much better w/o tobacco. But, alas, I doubt it is actually the cause of war and unballance, not socially, anyway. As for a pandemic, smoking is indefinitely. As for the cause of cancer, yes to that also. I'm just not sure people are killing each other over a stick of poison. Okay, so maybe somebody is.. But.. It dosen't happen that often.

New Jersey isn't that bad, as long as you stay out of the bad areas of Camden, Jersey City, Newark, Passaic, Paterson, Trenton, or most of Essex County. It is, however, rather expensive to live in, with apartment rents typically 800-1000 dollars for a modest studio. That is, however, dependent on where you live. And if you plan on working in NYC and commute, expect to pay NJ, NY, and NYC income taxes, and the NYC commuter tax, in addition to either bus fare, train fare, water taxi fare, or tolls.

NYC's no picnic to live in either, with rents double or triple of what an apartment goes for in NJ, plus parking, or Metrocard fees.

Especially since they're a rather longed lived species. The only problem is because they are a longed lived species. Human ages don't really convert to the ages of dragons.

Okay.. So they haven't been proven to have existed. Still, I don't know anybody who has seen them, I don't know. Whenever the subject comes up about dragons not existing with somebody, they just say, "what? you don't believe in dragons?". I'm confuzzled! crybaby.gif

They tend to be reclusive, generally shunning the environs of man. Which answers the next point that they haven't proven to exist. I don't know, but after centuries of persecution in Western Europe and encroachment on to my habitat, I'd be pretty damn reclusive too. Ah.. True, true. Wakarimasen. In that sense, they are quite long-lived. The whole concept of dragons, as ancient as it is has always been quite mystifying to the mind of humankind.

As for not believieng in the Great Pumkin, for crying out loud, I just don't get these urban myths!! I'm sure all kids have had that little phase where they believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus, etc. etc., but like I said, when topics like this do come up, even when children aren't present, they just say, "you mean you don't believe in santa?", or "you've never seen the Peanuts, have you?", And I just end up replying, "of course I've seen the Peanuts Halloween special.. dry.gif" or "well, no, I don't really believe in Santa, y'mean you do?! Dragons in childhood: smile.gif In short, I really liked dragons (and Unicorns, etc.), it all started with the fantasy movies, and the mythology, etc. And I still do... I just, you know, don't believe in 'em anymore. Not entirely, anyway. wink.gif

jjajangmyun tastes good... there's no taste like it! Its outer appearance might deceive you though because it's a very deep, rich shade of brown, and it's quite messy to eat. It's nothing like any other kind of food - it has its own distinctive sweet taste that I can't describe smile.gif You should try some one day... at a korean market/restaurant or wherever they have it.

If i could be a character, i'd be Akane and make my moves on Ranma and end up happily ever after with a dragon as a friend.. =_=.gif hahaa.

I meant that I was depressed valentine's day because I was outwardly admitting my single..ness. By eating jjajangmyun on that day is tradtionally known to be a confession of singlehood. Of course, it could have been worse. I could have been sitting around, gorging myself on chocolates, while watching Titanic. crybaby.gif And I only watch it, because, at the tender age of 10, I was bit bit by the Titanic Bug. It's a disease that affects certain members of the population, infecting them with this desire to learn all they can about the greatest maritime tragedy of all time. So yes, I've read A Night to Remember and The Night Lives On, by Walter Lord, Raise the Titanic, by Clive Cussler, own a copy of the James Cameron Movie, and heck, I've even played the board game and built a model of her.

And yes, I'll admit that Titanic is one of those movies I can't watch without crying. And it's not because of the love story, it's because of the preventable loss of 1500 souls that night in April 95 years ago.

And the same thing happened to me, when I was like, 8, all my little friends saw Titanic, and I didn't and I wondered why they got to see it at such an early age. And then when I was 12 I was flipping channels and I watched it. And I agree, The fictional section of the story moved me little. It was the fact that so may people lost their lives, and all because "the Un-sinkable RMS Titanic's" propellors were, in fact, way, way too small!! ohmy.gif And it was called "the Un-sinkable", but remember how fast it shot down into the ocean?? In about an hour, Right? 12:45-2:20?

Question: What's your favorite movie?

188. Reply by: Scooter

2007-02-18, 12:48 PM

Titanic had a lot of things going against her. The screws are actually a decent size; it's the rudder that's too small, and the centerline screw (the one just forward of the rudder) was on a non-reversible turbine, so when the bridge ordered engines full astern, while attempting to steer around the berg, there was no slipstream for the rudder to operate. The watertight compartments didn't extend all the way up to the main deck, so as the water reached the top of one bulkhead it spilled over the top. The crew had insufficient training in handling such a large vessel; there weren't enough lifeboats, etc., etc. etc. I could go on, but as you can see, one can become consumed by this vessel.
The ship struck the iceberg at 11:40, sank at 2:20; an hour forty minutes. And a surprisingly long amount of time for a ship that large to founder.

---------

As for favorite movies here's a partial list.

Braveheart
Patriot (Mel Gibson)
We Were Soldiers
Patton
The Last Samurai
Seven Samurai
Any Godzilla flick from Toho Productions
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Wars, Eps. III, IV, V, VI (Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi)
Saving Private Ryan
Excalibur
Das Boot

M*A*S*H
Hogan's Heroes
Battlestar Galactica (The new series)
Babylon 5
Star Trek: The Original Series
Stargate: SG1 (on occasion)
Dr. Who (Love the classic series, particularly with Tom Baker)
Mail Call
Mythbusters

I'm a model builder, preferring to build model aircraft, including kitbashing; although I'm not against building the odd starship (Star Trek or Star Wars particularly) or naval/merchant marine vessel. I was also quite the player of AD&D 2d Edition (Bereth and Cristina in "Wild Stallion and the Drow" are both PCs of mine); I also do a Star Trek-based RP at Star Trek Simulation Forum where my character is married to both Ranko Saotome and Xian Pu, trained under Genma, and received the "Kiss of Marriage" accidentally from Xian Pu, and who's father, a landowner of some 25 thousand square miles, recognized polygamous marriages Will Marx My fourth main hobby is being a military otaku and general Mr. Know-it-all.

I do enjoy J-pop, but haven't listened to enough of it to form a real opinion. That being said, I like: Swing/Big Band (particularly Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman), Classic Rock (too many to choose), Classical (Beethoven rocks!), the odd opera (so does Rossini), the Star Wars Soundtracks (Gotta love John Williams), almost any sound track by James Horner and Jerry Goldsmith, the STVI soundtrack, Yohko Kanno (wrote one dogfight and fist fight to Tank! and Piano Black from the Cowboy Bebop OST1 CD), and the odd country singer (An American Soldier, by Toby Keith brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it) (and that includes Johnny Cash as well).

I love Western music though, too. It's funny you like the Glenn Miller Band and Benny Goodman, because those are my two favorite swing bands! laugh.gif My favorite swing songs are Sing Sing Sing, and In The Mood. ^.^

Favorite Western genres include: Classical (Beethoven, Mozart), Classic Rock (The Who, Beatles, and escpecially Jimmi Hendrix!!!!!), even a few golden oldies remind me of what my parents liked back when, and that really touches me. crying.gif

Um, I hope these aren't too many questions for you guys..? Well, if not, here is another:

I swear, things are getting freaky, N-chan; because those are two of my favorites as well. I also wrote a dogfight scene (air combat) to the 8 minute version of Sing, Sing, Sing.

Oh man, so many to choose from...

Albert Einstein
BG Chuck Yeager (first man to fly faster than the speed of sound)
BG William "Billy" Mitchell (I'd love to tell him that he'd be vindicated twenty years after he proved that a plane can sink a battleship)
Winston Churchill
Franklin D. Roosevelt
GAF Henry "Hap" Arnold (father of the modern Air Force, and Chief of Staff of the US Army Air Corps/Forces)
GEN George S. Patton
COL Lawrence Chamberlain

Do you like J-Pop? Who's your favor artist? Song? If not, what genre do you like? which artist? And which song is your favorite?

The only jpop that I've heard are the anime osts that I come across. I do like Utada Hikaru's Time Will Tell, and it's not from an anime. smile.gif My favorite artist... I love it how when faced with these favorite questions, I don't remember a thing about myself. I'm into Charlotte Church, Josh Groban, Ben Folds, Corinne Bailey Rae, Lara Fabian, uh uh uh Jonatha Brooke, and Liz Callaway and and John Legend and John Mayer. And my fav. band that i can think of right now is Save Ferris.

I love disney songs. huh.gif

You haven't really heard any J-Pop, either? It's really great, you should start listening to it. Do you listen to K-Pop? I love that, too. Try listening to some Boa Kwon (BoA). She does both Japanese-Pop and Korean-Pop, and she's one of my favorite singers. smile.gif

Disney songs... I remember how much I used to love those when I was a little, little kid. ^^
I think my favorite was.. Reflection, from Mulan. Funny how I remember these things now of all times. huh.gif

I listen to a lot of K.Pop. Not so much anymore, but I did a lOT before. I was obsessed. When they came to the hollywood bowl, my friend and i got front row seats and went CRAZYYY. I used to like Boa but now, I've tired of her singing :l .

I want to go to Disneyland. I love the song, When You Wish Upon a Star. It makes me feel warm inside.

I was recently introduced to K-Pop, about a couple months ago, and I really liked it. But what's wrong with BoA? You just heard too much of her, eh? I love BoA... She's a good singer of both genres.

I really think that's sweet that you like Disney stuff, by the way. ^.^

Oh, and I hope you don't feel like I'm patronizing you when I say that it's nice that you like Disney songs. Even though I grew out of it fairly quicky, I still think it's cute, anyway. I don't want to hurt your feelings, that's all.

Question: If you could change one thing about Ranma 1/2, what would it be?

Thank you for your concern NarakuSlayer, smile.gif but don't worry, I'm not offended at all.

Boa is a great singer, dancer, performer; she deserves all of the attention she gets from her fans.

answer to the question: I would change the ending. Instead of Akane and Ranma just holding hands (in the manga) I'd rather have them smooch.. They never REALLY smooch. I want a REAL REAL REAL smooch.

206. Reply by: ~Naraku*Slayer11

Ok, Hana. Just making sure. smile.gif

No. They don't actually, willingly kiss. Unless you count the accidental kissing that happens at least twice, I think. But anyway, they should. wub.gif Throughout the series, their love for each other grows, but they never kiss? That would be what I'd change, as well as these:
  • Genma wouldn't be such a poor father
  • Akane would give Ranma more chances at love
  • Ranma would ease up on the jokes and criticism every once in a while
  • Mousse wouldn't be so... Odd wink.gif
I know that's a quite a bit, but that's just me. But I love Ranma as it is! smile.gif

It was actually quite nice. I packed for cold weather, they had spring-like.

Thanks for the kudos. But I didn't really pre-plot out the story; I wrote it more of a "How would Ranma handle being an Air Force dependent," and, of course, the shameless self-promotion of an SI. It sort of grew a life of it's own after awhile. And some of it (Scooter's father's death) was a coping mechanism of my own. We may be greener than some countries in our consumer products, N-chan, but when you look at our power generation, we're far from green:

Quoted http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/Usa/Electricity.html

As of January 1, 2004, U.S. net summer electric generating capacity  was 948 gigawatts (GW). Of this total, 77 percent was thermal (33 percent coal, 22 percent natural gas, 18 percent "dual-fired," 4 percent petroleum), 10 percent hydro, 10 percent nuclear, and 2 percent "other renewables" (geothermal, solar, wind). The amount and geographical distribution of capacity by energy source is a function of, among other things, availability and price of fuels and/or regulations. Capacity by energy source generally shows a geographical pattern such as: significant nuclear capacity in New England, coal in the central U.S., hydroelectric in the Pacific West, and natural gas in the Coastal South.

France, on the other hand, generates 78% of their electricity with nuclear reactors (http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/France/Electricity.html). Scary that the frog people are greener than we are.

As for nuclear weapons, we're guilty of letting that genie out of the bottle in 1945. Of course Operation Downfall, the amphibious assaults on Japan, had statistics of up to 1 million Allied casualties in the first 24 hours of the invasion of Kyushu, President Truman authorized the first (and only) use of nuclear weapons in combat. With a choice between half a million total casualties or millions of Allied dead, and the probable destruction of the Japanese culture, I think Truman chose wisely.

Wow.. A lot of that's news to me. I knew we weren't the greenest country, but that's still pretty bad. Imagine how America may feel when they find out (if they don't already know) that "the frog-eating cowards" are more ecological than we are! laugh.gif

.... At any rate, the world is being so blind, here! It's almost like we don't even realize we're killing ourselves!!

The way I see it, the world's fate is in us liberal's, peacenik's, and hippie's hands to try and convince the world to be more green. Or perhaps we could get Dubbya to pass a law restricting aerosol products? Hmmm... A bit too far-fetched, but that would be interesting to see.....

But what would be do with the aerosol products still here? Throw them into space? scratchchin.gif

Nuclear weapons: That's not as surprising. We use waaaaaaaay too many nuclear products, all of us, that is. Those who made breakthroughs in Nuclear Science by discovering X-Rays, say, kinda doomed us in doing so. Then again, we can't blame them, I suppose. Laws should have been made to prevent the excessive use of radiation where it's not necessary. That's just what I think.

Actually, if you look at a can of hair spray today, and compare it to one from fifteen years ago, you'll notice there are no CFCs in it.

The problem is carbon emissions. We, as a nation, produce way to much; between power generation, industry, and personal conveyances. We wouldn't need to have two or three cars per household if mass transit was improved. As an example, 18 months ago I went to London on leave from Iraq. I was two blocks away from the Tube in Earl's Court, which took me to where ever I needed to go within city limits for £4 50p on a two zone pass. Going to the Imperial War Museum Duxford, was reasonable, and coming on the bus knocked 20% off the admission.

Mass transit definitely the way to go.

By the way: Ni, I say! Ni!

scratchchin.gif However, the key word: Usually. I have found at least 10 popular brands of hair spray with NO seal saying that it contains no C F Carbons. And plus, it has that really strong aerosol scent (you can hardly tell, it's subtle. But a lot of aerosol cans I have unknowingly bought have a distinct smell from the non CFC cans).

Oh... Carbon. Does it really do as much (or more) damage than CFCs do? Even with as many motorized vehicles as there are? At any rate, it's still a pretty bad thing, just like aerosols.

Mass transit is a nice way to get around, if you're willing to wait at a bus stop for 10 minutes in extreme weather just to get to the next bus stop, and walk the rest of the way to school. Notwithstanding, it's still more economical. And it's for the best.

CFCs attack the ozone layer. Carbon Monoxide and Dioxide are greenhouse gases, which, as we know, cause the retention of heat. Coupled with deforestation of the rain forests (tropical and temperate) and the growth of the Sahara into sub-Saharan Africa, the Earth is losing it's ability to control it's own temperature. Which will result in the eventual melting of the polar icecaps, severe drought and starvation, and the inundation of coastal areas by the sea.

Wakarimasu. And the greenhouse effect and ozone layer depletion not only will cause drought, but when the polar ice caps melt, the resulting excess water will surely drown the earth. Or, at least Alaska, Northern Canada and the Arctic Circle. And, of course, gradually Antarctica will dissolve too, thus killing us all. aww.gif

So, can we make improvements to reverse global warming? Or is it too late? O_O;

Some countries, we just can't convince. With that said, I can say, very pessimistically, we are surely doomed to swelter to death in a T-shirt at 97 Fahrenheit in December, come year 2050. sad.gif

Yeah, it's a shame we think in terms like that. And we're a disposable society as well. It's cheaper to get a new widget than it is to fix the old one. That's honestly not being responsible citizens. One of the hot rod shows (I think it's American Muscle Car) on Speed has a tagline that says: Don't crush'em, restore 'em. Think of how much energy it takes to recycle a car, a refrigerator, washing machine, or other major appliance. And that's if the scrapped item even gets to the recycling yard. Most of the time they show up in the landfills, rusting away.

Well, actually they're talking about restoring a diminishing breed of car- the true American muscle car. With the gas crunch and EPA regulations in the early 70s, the muscle car all but died, except for a handful- the Ford Mustang, the Pontiac Trans Am, and the Chevy Corvette. Every so often, one of the Big Three (GM, Ford, DaimlerChrysler) bring back one of their old marques. GM, has been by far the most environmentally responsible of the Three and their cars get up 30mpg, and have started development of fuel-cell power (along with BMW), and built the only hybrid full-size pickup, a Silverado 1500 Hybrid.

Welcome, welcome.  I guess, as the only one still active here, it's nice to see new people show up.  Of course N-chan said she was having computer problems, and the rest have fallen off the face of the Earth.

We do tend to get off topic quite a bit, so ignore the spam (Lovely spam! Wonderful Spam!).  Otherwise we shall have to say "Ni!" to you, until you die.

I was saying ignore the spam; not "don't spam while I spam". And I do strongly concur. If you must Spam, do keep it clean and legal.

And have been missed, N-chan. Our spamming of the forum was greatly missed while you were gone. I didn't know what to do with myself at work. After all, what was I expected to do for 8 hours a day, work?

Work, during the school year, is utter boredom. During the summer, it's get the building ready for the new school year. Ah, but I care not any more. I'm going to lovely Biloxi Mississippi for 6 months for Air Force Training. In the middle of Hurricane season.

Well, to make a long story short, I noticed my computer was acting real strange, so I took it in to get fixed and had to travel across the state about a month after that, I was visiting my cousin. That was for a day, then I went in to pic up my machine and they could not do much for me, but at least I got it back. And that's basically what happened. heh.gif Not much of a short story, ne?

Odd. Go to CompUSA and by a new power cable. Unless it's a laptop, then talk to your company's Tech Support. If it's under warranty still.

Tsk, tsk. Tough. Yeah, I would just try and hold on 'till you get something better, or get it repaired. But that's awful. sad.gif
