A hero with a destiny in order to gather the rest of the 107 Stars of Destiny to yet achieve conquest against the battle of humanity to one and another.
Suikoden is a world filled with the magical runes that has powers to surpass the limits of humans. Legends say that the world was created by the a pair of twins, True Runes, Bright Shield Rune and the Black Sword Rune.
In the beginning, there was "darkness."
Then, the "darkness" shed a "tear."
From that "tear," the brothers Sword and Shield were born.
Shield claimed it could defend against any attack.
Sword claimed it could slice through anything.
The brothers began a legendary battle.
At the end, both Sword and Shield shattered.
Sword became the sky, Shield became the earth, and the sparks from the battle became the stars.
As for the jewels, they fell to the ground and became the True Runes--The runes that all other runes were born from.
The runes are replicas of its master runes like Water rune from the Flowing Rune yet the master rune actually came from a True Rune as well. There are 27 True Runes that has the special gift and curse to its bearer. It grants agelessness to its host and immunity against natural deaths like sickness but could still be killed through physical causes. Its great and unmeasurable power had caused counltess tragic wars.
Each of all the 27 True Runes holds a specific and unique power to grant and has benefits to its host, such as immoratality which would be a great benifit and a curse. If the host has no control against its True Rune, thne this would result to the alternative of the master-servant relationship, showing that the person is only a mere puppet from the True Rune.
All True Runes has its own sole puprpose. It could save lives or kill thousands depending on the power and the ability of the True Rune and the bearer. True Runes are nothing more than forces of nature and once the bearer is at death, the True Rune will randomly select its next bearer or hide and seek out for its bearer once it feels like so. A person could only hold one True Rune at a time.
Aside from the True Runes, the story focuses to a hero during a war. The hero is to own the burden of a True Rune, facing the benefits and gifts of the True Rune and as well as its curse and immense power. The hero carries the burden for the sake of everyone else but he is not alone. He was assigned already as the Chief Star or Tenkai Star to gather the rest of the 107 Stars of Destiny to put an end to the war and seek peace and order in power and peace.
~
The game is basically about the hero, gaining a True Rune and getting troubles with his responsiblity. The power in his hands is a very useful one for him to end such occurrence but could finish the whole world. The hero grows hesistant, doubtful and hatred but with the rest of the 107 Stars of Destiny, they have the key of balance.
As the series progress to Genso Suikoden, Genso Suikoden II, Genso SuikoGaiden Volume I and II, Genso Suikoden III, Genso Suikoden IV, Rhapsodia and Genso Suikoden V, the animation becomes more realistic and the player travels far more in the story of the Suikoden world.
Basically, you would gather the Stars of Destiny, complete missions, find in war with the use of strategy and strenght and choosing your own destiny. It's about wars, troubles, life, friendship, love and the common world we have now. Every character as well has its own story, background and possibly character progress.
