Noir #7.. Prince Miyshkin and the old guy.. so sad..

Also.. pretty much any of the later eva episodes, and the last episode of cowboy bebop. All of bebop is pretty depressing.. but the last ones especially.

And one cannot forget the pre-series kenshin OVAs. No, one cannot. So incredibly good, yet so violent.. and so horribly depressing.

On CCS the second movie (The Sealed Card) when the card is finally sealed and the card is gonna take Syaoran's most important emotion and he says he would fall in love with her all over again. It was sooo sad because he really loved her and it was gonna be taken away!!! But luckily it all worked out. hey.gif phew

Mine... there are so many sad episodes on all anime... the ones that made me almost cry were:
- Ep. 24 Full Metal Alchemist: That was SUCH A CRUDE WAY major Hughes was killed, and the ending... SOOOOOOOO sad crying.gif
- Ep. 25 & 26 Cowboy Bebop: "THE REAL FOLK BLUES" part 1 & 2... by far the sadest ending of all anime (at least it is 4 me)... how Annie was killed, how the crew got separated... how Julia is taken apart from Spike... really sad crying.gif
- I don't remember the episode... I dun say it was sad, but it was PRETTY emotional... the Inuyasha episode where Inuyasha and Kikyou find each other under the tree where Inuyasha was trapped... I dunno how to relate it, but I remember the name of the episode was "Onigumo no kokoro" or "Onigumo's heart"... and also the following episode, "A song from the day when we met"... PRETTY emotional both of them crying.gif
- The only time I cried when watching any series was when watching Naruto ep. 19-20 when Haku and Zabusa die... OMG!!! THAT MOMENT WAS SO EMOTIONAL I COULDN'T HELP DO ANYTHING BUT CRY!!! crying.gif
Aditionally... the sadest ever made OVA is Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuioku-hen... how could Kenshin have killed Tomoe???!!! how he talks to her while she is lying dead... crying.gif

I believe that in a certain way, all anime endings are sad...The reason is, the end has come and you are leaving their world, their story and no matter how many times you rewatched that same anime, it will never be the same as the first.

Saddest Episode for an anime specific is a real toughy....I'd have to go with The Real Folk Blues 1 & 2 and.....Full Metal Panic when hughes was murdered....and Trigun when Wolfwood died...and gah there are just too many to list...

For me, it was when Elle's brother in Shadow Skill died. The after-effects of that was deep. Both Elle and Gau were looking for people to hold onto, so they turned to each other.

Another was Narutaki from Steam Detectives, when he learned more about his parents and the way Knight Phantom tortured him. I mean, he's just a kid! He seemed so broken and gave up his life to save the city.

The Saddest episode of an anime ever is One Piece Episode 1...the FOXBOX edition....

Super Gay....

here are the changes from the Japanese Vers. To the English Vers. (This is in episode one ONLY!)

- The opening was changed as well as the rest of the music. The dub opening is a rap.
- The font for the title was completely different. Also, the title was changed from "I'm Luffy, The Man Who Will Become The Pirate King" to "I'm Gonna Be The Pirate King"
- Everyone said water was in the barrel that Luffy was in instead of rum.
- Dialogue for Nami. Such as, ?You're stepping on my toe!" when the cannons were being fired at the ship.
- When the pirates were rushing on the ship they took out the ?bwum? effect.
- The blood on the wall when Coby hit the wall was taken out.
- Shortened the kick to the nuts
- Shortened the great nap line to just one short line, and they added mouth movements to Luffy for the line.
- The thing about Coby being weak was shortened. Also, Luffy said, "You're gonna be working for them the rest of your life." instead of ?Oh, you are a coward. I don't like you. Hahaha.? Which is completely different.
- No eyecatch.
- When Coby was shouting at Luffy about being a pirate, they took out mention of the Grand Line
- Luffy hitting Coby was taken out and they talked about it.
- Marine was changed to Navy. They also edited the sails on the Marine ships to say Navy.
- Zoro was changed to Zolo. They also called him a samurai.
- Gomu Gomu became Gum Gum
- Devil Fruit was changed to Cursed Fruit
- Luffy's remark of wanted 10 crewmates was taken out
- Luffy looking into his hat flashback right before Coby gained his courage was taken out and replaced with a repeating echo of what Luffy said.
- Pistol was changed to Blast in Luffy?s move. They also cut part of the move.
- Luffy didn?t hit Coby at the end of the episode.
- No TO BE CONTINUED frame, ending, or preview.

And Here is the new intro song which replaces the old intro song "We Are!"
One Piece Rap Intro-Mega Gay

Scrapped Princess where Pacifica finally met her mum (she was given away at birth). For refusing to give away Pacifica's location, mum was brutally tortured & was coincidentally jailed in an adjoining cell. Tragic thing is mum died of her injuries shortly after & without Pacifica knowing her identity.

Another episode is when Hugh (not sure of his name, the Japs have a funny way of pronouncing English names) stayed behind to stop the troops from going after Pacifica & the rest. Even as he was dying of his injuries, he was trying to crawl towards the agreed meeting place. When Pacifica's bro found his corpse, his eyes were still staring into the direction Pacifica had fled.

Full Moon wo Sagashite Episode 42.
The most heart-breaking of all the heart-breakers. You take a poor, sick, dying little girl's final dying dream, and them smash it HARD in her face by killing the one person she was living for, and was the reason she was living for. How cruel.

And the last Episode of Furandasu no Inu.
Nelo and Patrasche die of pneumonia, just outside Notre Dame Cathedral, but at least they died seeing the last two Stations of the Cross. Too bad they didn't live long enough to find out they won the painting contest.

and the ghosts of her friends appears to support her... yeah :xd

Fushigi Yuugi ep ?
When Nuriko.. well you know T_T I won't say anything,

Kino's Journey in general was pretty sad I thought. random_kuree isn't your avitar of Kino? I thought it was a fantastic anime and very thought provoking...

Oh! In Rurouni Kenshin when Kenshin and the others return from Kyoto and the fight with Shishio.
They are walking down the road to the dojo, next to a river and there are cherry blosoms falling. Kenshin stops and stares at the river and Kaoru notices he's stopped and falls behind to talk to him as the others continue walking.

"Kenshin, what's wrong?" she asks him

"I never expected to be walking down this same raod with all of you again. It feels so strange..." he comments

"Do you remember this spot? This is where you said goodbye to me that day. Back then, I couldn' think of any words to say to you. But now I can." she says as she looks to Kenshin. "So let me say it...Welcome home Kenshin."

She holds out her hand to him. His eyes widen in surprise, but then he understands and closes his eyes smiling contentedly. He takes her hand and they walk together.

The music at that part is really beautiful. I'd recommend downloading it, it's called Intermezzo.

Saddest anime....
Well, here a small list of those that i can remember at 01:32 pm...
<Anime writers are real sadists>

Bleach
In one episode, Ione's brother stays behind, because of his sister begging his not to die... Its realy
sad and depressing, since I begged my little sister not to die, after she had got shot in a super market robbery.
She fought to live for then days straight, but in the end, she went into a coma, and became totaly catotomic. Eventualy, my Mother and Father decided tgive up hope and turn the life support off.

It just shows you that one should not wish selfishly , since by doing so, you put others thought alot of pain. My mother and Father had never been the same after they sigined the consent form.

Mai Hime, ep 8, 20-25
Where all the himes and thier loved ones dies slowly, especialy Tate(He never had a chance) and Mai's brother, and naskuki, and well mostly everyone....

Mai Hime , ep 26:
where they are alive again.

She, the Ultamate weapon (Seikano):Pretty much the entire series were sad , but esspesialy :

1)Where Chise kills the main caracters friend with the explosion.
2)Where Fumi-sensai's husband gets killed.
3)Where the Army-dude shoots himself.
4)Where the eathquike almost kills the main caracters childhood fiend, and she tells his she loves him, and he strips her bare, to tell her that shes beautifull.
5)Pretty much everything I forgot where someone dies...
6)Where the main caratcher is left alone in the world, hulusinating Chise is still alive.
He will thus die in a matter of days due to no water/food.

Um, Ayonia no Ceris,

Dna-Angel
In the end where Dark is nomore

RahXephond
Where he kills the girl he had run off with. He kills the enamy moster, before realizing she had linked with it as a Mew. All the message bords, say stuff like 'Aitot, the is something I have to tell you, Aitoto, Good bye...'

Where Hikari perisihes(self-sacrifice), and where Minamo shouts at the Main Carecter , at the end of the last episode, without him having any comeback. It just ends...

Koi Kaze :
If you watched it, I need to say no more...

X1995 & XTV

The entire movie, and where the dog gets attacked, and the other dude sacrafices himself fot the 'cute' chick...

Full Metal Panic & Yumeria & Excel Saga & School Rumble & Stelvia & Foely Coelie [FLCL]
Just kidding!!!

In short : My LIFE and most of the anime series.

Motto Of the sory : Its easier to watch someone die on Tv that on anime.
Its easier to watch someone die in real life than on anime.
Its as easy as hell to see yourself die, than someone else.
When you should die, when you 'have' to die, you cant.
When don't want to die, you do.
Anime Is ruining my life!!!

1. Episode 73 of Case Closed. This girl kills some one. But get this: That person was out to kill her! So she either kills him, or gets killed. Sad. She went to Jail. Conan should have kept his mouth shout.
2. Naruto- Neiji and Hinata's fight. Not much here, but it was sad.
3. Naruto being dubbed for FoxBox XP
4. W-e-l-l...this is a Manga moment, but in Suikoden III: Volume I, when Lulu is mercilessly killed by Chris. That made me sad.
5. Detective Conan: Capture in her Eyes, when Sato is shot. I thought she was gonna die. What a great movie!

Tomoe& Kenshin:
- When Tomoe scarrs Kenshin and... dies.
- When Kenshin is talking to [ a dead ] Tomoe.

Kenji&Kaoru:
- When Kenji says to a dying Kaoru, " Get well soon, mother. Then, we can go see the cherry blossom trees like always. " sweeeet.gif

Kenshin&Kaoru:

- When Kenshin asks Kaoru to call him Shinta.
- When the two are running to each other and collapse together.
- When... Kenshin... dies...

Hey there have you seen Saikano aka She, The Ultimate Weapon the saddest episode has to be I think nine when Akemi dies, while the once she loves is looking on. How about that she finally confesses her love for him and she dies, that's just the saddest thing to happen, what do you all think???

Quoted hermit (on Sep 21 2004, 11:20 PM)

I must agree with you... Those parts were really really sad, specially when Pacifica's mother dies...

Thios is without doubt one of the most moving episodes in the series.

Enough said for that since everyone else has covered it allready.

The other are two episodes from Haibane Renmei,

Kuu's day of flight
and in the final episode
Reki's true name and how she abandoned herself turning to stone.

1)Frozen Time.Vampire Princess Miyu. Miyu's past is just so sad...And plus...I don't know, when she cries you feell like your heart is being ripped out, I may be alone in this though sleep.gifv
2) A bunch of Weiss Kreuz episodes...But especially the one where Ouka dies...And where Omi finds out he's a Takatori..And where Ken has to kill Kaze and..Oh heck, the whole darn series is sad.
3)Gravitation: The OAV always brings me to tears...Plus the episode that Shuichi has a run in with that group.
4)Yami no Matsuei: Again, a few sad episodes.
5)Gundam Seed has brought me to tears a few times...Like that part with the little girl giving Kira a paper flower and then the shuttle is destroyed by Izak.
6) The episodes of Inuyasha where Inu-kun forces Kagome to go home because he doesn't want her to get hurt and all and Kagome is all sad..Plus the movie Affections reaching Across Time has some tear jerking moments in it as well.

The last episode of Cowboy Bebop was sad., but Julia got what she deserved. Let's see epiodes 25 and 51 of Full Metal Alchemist. Episodes 107-135 of Naurto, the whole Sasuke-kun thing. So sad. There are so many sad episodes. I could probaly name more but I can't remember now.

Everyone who likes Rurouni Kenshin should agree: The second episode of Seisouhen is the saddest; when Kenshin dies.

In Naruto, it's episodes 132-135, when Naruto recalls his childhood with Sasuke, as well as his emotions at that time... I don't know if this counts, but in the Naruto movie, it was when Sandayuu and his comrades get brutally killed with kunai...

For Fullmetal Alchemist, it's the episode when Major Hughes dies, and his daughter is unknown to it...

Also Nina death was pretty sad. Another episode was the Kakashi gaiden. The last sad episode for me was when Sasuke had the flash back of his entire clan being killed by Itachi. The saddest ending in the animes I've seen is in Pretear, where Sasame sacrifices himself to save Takako, then Hayate sacrifices himself to save Himeno.
But it gets sadder for me when Himeno becomes the White Pretear, and sacrifices herself to bring everyone back. Almost makes me cry. Then Hayate kisses Himeno, and she's returns to life biggrin.gif:D Then I'm happy. Note: Contains Naruto Spoilers for you American Naruto Watchers.

WARNING, SPOILER:I literally cried when Sasuke left Sakura crying in Konoha, and he knocked her out. She was literally begging him not to go! Yet, it shows an amazing amount of compassion on Sasuke's part, that he loves the team. I just hated it when he left. Sakura's feelings were crushed! You inconsiderate Uchiha!

I guess the sentences in the spoiler don't count XD. But I'll have you know that the spoiler involves Sakura crying. Naruto is probably just getting drunk on Ramen somewhere, and Sasuke is being the inconsiderate Uchiha that he is. I'll have you know that I love that show, so don't go disrespecting it's awesomeness.

Oh, and that filler in Full Metal Alchemist with the relic disease (or something like that). The village girl was getting married to the man who loves Lust, and then...the disease strikes again. Its my favorite episode though, I got it on tape.

In the early 100s of Naruto where Sasuke, a true warrior and a valued friend of Naruto (although he hated to show it), became whimpy and insecure that he wasn't powerful enough to defeat Naruto so he turned to Orochimaru for help. It was a drastic change in the storyline. Although the creator did show some forms of foreshadowing this in earlier parts of the story, it was still a big change and really hurt me when Naruto's friend, no, probably Naruto's BEST friend (and rival), left to side with the face of evil. It was very sad to me.

However, this was not all bad. Since it did trigger one of his best creations, the long awaited Naruto VS. Sasuke battle. Probably one of the best ever shown on the anime, and I really thought the creator outdid himself. Unfortunately, the fillers started shortly after and it just went downhill. Hopefully tomorrow they are supposedly going to end.

Well, watching Onegai Sensei Episode 10-12 in which:

WARNING, SPOILER:Kei didn't want to live with Mizuho because of Morino's standstills, and he wanted both of them to move forward. He wanted to get back with Herikawa, and they meet at the school. Both of them tried to kiss, but Mizuho calls out and sees both of them. She then runs and while Kei chases her, she teleports to the beach where they had a honeymoon. Kei then begs Marie to teleport him, and he did. Mizuho spots Kei running towards her, and tells Marie to teleport her again, but he doesn't. Kei chases Mizuho across the beach (how sweet) and Mizuho tells Kei "I hate you!" over and over, but realizes that she loves Kei, and he loves her. lol Kissing scene, then they tell their faith to each other, but Kei goes into the longest and most desperate standstill of all.

Then in episode 12, after he recovers from his standstill, he forgets about Mizuho, and the only thing that stands between forgetting and remembering is the box of Pochy. Mizuho escapes from her planet and starts all over again, that it makes you experience deja vu. The usual scenes from episode 1 occur, but during the move, instead of Kei tripping, he (this is kind of wrong but funny) tells Mizuho "I can see your breasts." Then Mizuho trips and they both fall to the ground. Mizuho gets back up and cries and apologizes, then Kei out of nowhere, asks "Is this another observation mission?" Kei's memory is back! Mizuho took sometime to explain everything to him but then realizes that he remembers everything. The sweet scene here is when Kei proposes to get married to Mizuho (as in get married), and lol kissing scene. I love how they go "Saiyu Sen Jiko Yo!" (It's top priority) in the end, and I love the credits of them being together.

ZOMG That's a lot, but yeah I was sooooooo close to crying, I even remember little tears coming out of my eyes. This series is touching.

The saddest anime episode is actually a tie for me.
1. Graduation- Azumanga Daioh- Episode 26
2. [I] I don't the episode name or number[I] Eureka 7

All I remember about that Eureka 7 episode was Renton left the ship Eureka was on, while Eureka was sick, and when Eureka was better she began looking for Renton. Se couldn't find him and she began to cry. She found some of Renton's old clothes and began to wear them as a rememberance towards him while she worked. All Renton tried to save a crippled girl but failed.

The second episode of Kenshin's OVA Seisouhen is beautiful yet the saddest episode I've ever seen. Well, you've seen the characters through 95 episodes, I think. You see in the first episode of the OVA, their lives many years atfer the series. And when you learn that two of them will from a mysterious disease, I must say it's kind of sad. The last episode of Kenshin Tsuiokuhen was also very sad...

The episode(s) of Elfen Leid wherein Nana looses her limbs. or When the children beat a puppy to death, I nearly cried. ...I don't cry. I'm sure there are more sad moments. Actually, I find anime as a whole makes me rather sad. Even happy animes cause me some sort of grief as they end. It's odd, I know, but I really have difficulty with the idea of things I love coming to an end. I realize it'll always be there If I want to see it again, but still somehow I'm saddened by the fact that it's over. This is why I find I avoid watching anime with any consistency. Silly of me, I know.

Yes, that part was depressing. However, it was too paced, I couldn't really cry. When Maes died, it was different. His little daughter (Alicia?) was involved, and she had no idea what was going on. It was sad when she requested him not get buried because she thought her father had a lot to work on tomorrow.

Hahah, how would they even explain that off. "I got cut in half with a fifty foot sword! ...but I got better." unsure.gif Only reason Mwu could is because he "makes the impossible possible." ohsnap.

But, I cried through various parts of GS. I just liked Kira so I always sympathized with him.

Also in the end of Chrno Crusade. I've banished it from my comp and hate the series now. Would've been a fav if not for the end.

And of course FMA with Hughes, and the movie depressed me because whats the point in finally being together again if you can't do alchemy and your stuck in Germany when Hitlers in power. cheh.

Well, the more emotional episodes for me have to be the Rock Lee/Gai Sensei sequences, where Gai promises to die if Lee dies.

Especially the episode in the tower made of Practice Dummies, where they both open up the Eight Gates.

Of course, the Lee/Gai scenes mean a lot to me, because I also have a mentor who gave his all for me.

Now, saddest episode, would be the last Episode of Paradise Kiss.

I am an advocate of sappy, happy endings, and the fact that they don't stay together in the end, but that George still left her all his beloved dresses made me very sad.

I have to agree with you on that. I watched it before bed and was still choked up when I went to work the next day. I couldn't exactly tell my co-workers what was wrong, but they were even worried about me.

As for Grave of the Fireflies, it was a sad waste of the time I spent watching it. The character development and storytelling were so incredibly poor that what should have been a tragic story did nothing for me. An generic obituary printed in a newspaper evokes more emotion.

Saddest episode of an anime... tough one.

Out of the recent anime I have seen. Gundam 00, episode 23, when Lockon died.

Out of older animes... well there was quite a number of them. The one that really sticks out was Mai HiME. There were quite a number of deaths and each one piled on top of each other really made them sad. Especially when Takumi dies, then couple episodes later Yuuichi dies. Though by the end of the series, it made those sad deaths useless which I was disappointed about.

Now in a manga, a sad scene was in Ichigo 100% when Junpei finally makes it clear that he wanted to be with Nishino and not Toujou. I felt really bad for Toujou on that one.

He made mistakes, he knew it, and he was aware of it's shortening his life. The scenes leading up to it made it clear that he knew Light had the upper hand, and in the anime, the feet washing scene made it absolutely clear he knew he was about to die. It seemed like Light picked up on it too.

I could tell going in that Light was the better player, and the story was told more from his perspective than L's, so he was the one I followed as the story's hero. From my perspective, it was the well earned defeat of the villain.

The saddest moment in anime would have to be....

A tie between Mae Hughe's death or....

The arc in When They Cry when Rika finally has a good arc going along, successfully invading capture and death only to have
WARNING, SPOILER: her friends hunted down and picked off one by one. She later is killed by being disemboweled, but carves the face of her killer for the next arc. [only to forget DX]

Damn if no ones  got it by now i might as well tell you. The evangelion movie becouse they both were substitutes for episodes 25 and 26 so they still count as episodes.
The scene where the major dies just before launching shinji into battle with eva unit 1.

I assume your talking about the "End of Evangelion" it's not an episode though it was sad enough to be mentioned here, it was created because most fans hated the series end (to the point where the director and writers received death threats) so they made death and rebirth and then the end of evangelion.

I've seen alot of sad endings... but the first thing that crossed my mind now, is from Magic Knight Rayearth, where Umi Ryuuzaki stopped herself from confessing to Guru Clef.

It gave me goosebumps when I watched it again on YouTube...

It depends on how it ends. If it gives me a sense of closure, I consider it a fitting end and I'm ok with the series ending.

Full Metal Alchemist's Conquerer of Shambala movie gave a perfect closure to the series while opening it up and giving something new to explore in the movie. Ruroni Kenshin had a very sad ending, but given the foreshadowing and the nature of his existence, it was also a happy ending of sorts, and really brought good closure to the series.

On the other hand, Ah My Goddess, which is still by far my favorite because of it's uplifting attitude, music and artwork, ended with essentially a cheap repeat of an earlier episode with a slight replacement, and then a big "the end" down in the corner of the last few frames. Nothing important was resolved, no sense of closure, just "We're too lazy to make any more episodes, and we want to protect the franchise so we're not writing an ending episode, so - THE END smile.gif"

Not familiar with how we handle spoilers here so I'll just tag them anyway. Maybe I should refresh my memory on the rules here!

1- Fullmetal Alchemist
WARNING, SPOILER:Major Hughes dying. First off, what made it horrible was the way Envy killed him. No, he didn't just have to shoot him, he had to transform into his wife THEN shoot him...How cruel. And then the funeral...and his daughter...tears.

2- Blood+
WARNING, SPOILER:At the end, after ALLLLLL two seasons of the fighting with her sister, Siya watches Diva crystalize and die in her arms. You could tell that through all of that, she loved her sister. I mean, she was the one who let her out in the first place... Also, just the thought and stuggle Siya was having about killing her niece/nephew was really sad.

3- Fullmetal Alchemist
WARNING, SPOILER:Finding out that Tucker basically killed his wife AND turned Nina into a chimera...then later seeing Nina killed by Scar. :(

4- OutLaw Star
WARNING, SPOILER:Not the saddest thing ever, but during one episode, Jim was falling in love for the first time with this little girl. Turns out that she's one of the 7 pirates that he and his borther, Gene, fight against. They battle and she ends up dying. Later on, he returns to the place where they were supposed to go out on a date....and she never shows up.

my personal choice would have to be NGE alternative ending 26. It is the scene where katsuragi kisses shinji good bye than gets blown to pieces.
The fun part of that scene though is if you listen to commentary on the disc they tell you that if you put it into slowmo you can see her being blown apart.
I did this and she actualy was in two seperate halfs, sick i know but thats me.

My heart clenches just thinking about it. It's like when you lose touch with a friend and then you find old pictures or letters, or something. It just hurts. Plus, her words were so heartfelt and sweet, it just twisted the knife.

OMG I just saw episode 35 of Death Note..... Talk about a sad ending.

WARNING, SPOILER:Takada has been kidnapped by Mello and after she writes his name down, she calls Light for further help. She's basically SOBBING hysterically and crying as she sits there naked trapped in the back of a truck, and Light just basically ignores her...he later writes her name down and makes her commit suicide by burning herself and everything around her.... I hated how far it deviated from the original backstory, and how it portrayed some of the main characters, particularly Washu and Ryo-Ohki. That said, it was one of the more emotive ones, probably because Tenchi finally fell in love with someone rather than just random innuendo from most of the female characters, or explicit behavior from Ryoko and Washu.

This reminds me of another scene that particularly got to me in Tenchi Universe.
WARNING, SPOILER:After breaking through the Juraian perimeter to get Tenchi in to fight Kagato, Ryoko said her goodbye and continued on with Ryo-Ohki. At the end she talks softly to Ryo-Ohki as she sits alone in the ship, and then slumps, her arm hanging over the side of her chair and blood dripping from it. The episode ends with Ryo-Ohki meowing mournfully.

Beautiful story of forbidden love between brother(28) and sister(15).

I don't cry.

I'm serious.

But Koi Kaze had me choking up from the first episode.

Next is Elfen Lied.

Everytime Nyu turns back into Lucy upset me, the puppy scene and the festival/train scene.

Also Evangelion when everything just goes Blamo.

It leaves you with something missing.

Well, anime was the first thing to make me cry since I watched ET when I was about 8-9. And trust me, I'm HF Autistic, it takes a lot to make me cry.

1. Okay, it's a movie but whatever. I watched Pokemon: The First Movie: Mew vs Mewtwo when it first came out in 2000 when I was about 8-9, and the point where Ash got turned to stone was pretty sad. After that, I lost all interest in those kind of cartoons...until...Summer 2009 and...

2. Azumanga Daioh - Episode 26 - Graduation

Ok, so the first real Japanese anime that I hadn't seen on TV. A undeniably brilliant and beautifully worked series ended with a very moving ending, the whole graduation ceremony scene, particularly the graduation song and Chiyo crying.

Definately the best series that I've seen so far (though I haven't watched that many animes as of this point.) It was so moving that it became, for me, the most moving TV series I had ever seen...until...

3. Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~ (Particulary Episode 12)

Looking back through this thread I am suprised to see that nobody appears to have mentioned this one. I went browsing the web for 'most moving animes' and came up with someone highly recommending this one. So I gave it a whirl. I was under the weather and had a whole weekend to watch this.

2 days and 13 episodes later, I emerged from the video sharing site I had been watching the series on red eyed and streaming with tears. The whole series was even more elegantly crafted than Azumanga Daioh, and had an unbeatable music score, and most of all, it actually made me cry.

But it was the emotional workings in the series. Particularly Episode 12 where Yasuna-Chan gets her sight back and Hazuma-kun finally decides that he loves her the most, and they live happily ever after it seems. This became officially the first thing to make me, a nearly 17 year old guy, cry his eyes out for a good 5 minutes straight, in at least 8 years.

It's also worth mentioning that, although this scene didn't come anywhere near as close as the past two, the scene in Trigun where Wolfwood spends his last moments of life and then dies in the church, that was pretty sad.

Damn the sentimentality resulting from the death of such an awesome and well-liked guy. Even his ghostly presence waving to Ed from the train platform. It just killed me. A piece of me died with Brigadier General Maes Hughes that evening. D;

And now they're doing flashbacks to the Ishbalin Massacre with him in it, talking about the great future he has with Gracia. Makes me wanna.... FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU.

Was it Bye-Bye Butterfree? It was Bye-Bye Butterfree. Damn that episode. :<

At least they softened it in the English dub, saying that it just went off to mate or whatever. In the original, they say that Butterfree actually goes off to die after it mates. I would've been traumatized as a child. ;~;

And I feel like I'm the only sad one when the time came for Ash to give Primeape away. He was such a bamf, and not even ten episodes later, the thing gets the axe. Just when he finally warmed up to Ash. D;

The ending of the Berserk Anime TV series was pretty sad, what with nothing good whatsoever happening to the good guys, but i liked it because it wasent some stupid happily ever after ending, but i still wish they would have kept the series going.

I'm guessing it has to be that one. Why does he have to give up his pokemon anyways? and why do they just go get killed/die..

Deathnote - L dies, Light dies (I only read the manga, but I' guessing the reaction was equivalent with the anime)

NGE - Arael vs Asuka

Clannad:
WARNING, SPOILER:When Negisa and Ushio die. I cried buckets, it doesn't help that the ending was also really emotional either. Clannad ~After Story~ was likely the saddest anime ever.

Gurren Lagann:
WARNING, SPOILER:Kamina dying. I cried manly tears. I also cried during the ending, because it was really emotional too. Waaah. D:

Fruits Basket (The manga):
WARNING, SPOILER:The ending of the manga series made me tear up a little. ;-;

Fullmetal Alchemist (The manga and Brotherhood):
WARNING, SPOILER:When Ed swears that he'll come back for Al's body. It certainly pulled a heartstring in me. The way the anime delivered it was really emotional too.

Durarara!!:
WARNING, SPOILER:Anri's scene where she gets her powers, aka Saika her sword, made me tear up, seeing as we see how her parents died and all. It's really saddening seeing as she was abused by her father, and her Mom killed him to protect Anri, then herself afterwords.

Gurren Lagann -
WARNING, SPOILER:Kamina's death, definitely. First time I cried when watching an anime. He's got to be the character who's had the most impact.

Also, Nia's sort-of death after her marriage to Simon, and then Simon leaving...

Saiyuki Gaiden (Not an anime, but incredibly sad part) -
WARNING, SPOILER: Pretty much the entire end, beginning with Kenrens death, to Tenpou's, then Konzen's. Especially when Konzen tells Goku he'll find him again, on earth.

Fullmetal Alchemist - Maes Hughes' death. I was depressed for ages. And then Alicia crying for him at his funeral, and Mustang crying after it.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood -
WARNING, SPOILER: Roy Mustang losing his vision because he's forced to perform Human Transmutation, Ed promising Al's body he'll come back for him, Al leaving his body behind the gate because he needs his metal armour body to fight.

Naruto -
WARNING, SPOILER: Jiraiya's death, and Naruto finding out about it. Face it, the Naruto world's a lot less brighter without the Pervy Sage.

Episode 13 of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai.
They tried so hard, and did so well, but in the end it was hopeless after all. sad.gif

At the first time, I do my best to try again
against the inevitable tragedy.

In the second time, I become disgusted
towards the inevitable tragedy.

The third time, disgust is overwhelmed into painfulness.
But by the seventh time, this all becomes a farce comedy.
