"Through a Splinter"

I think nothing
of a splinter,
until my hand slides
down a wood rail
and a sliver pierces
my finger,
then I can think of
nothing else.

A small seed means nothing,
until my mother plants it,
and a flower blooms,
then its aroma reaches my
nose and makes me feel good,
or causes me to sneeze.

A simple word, like love, means nothing,
until I hear it spoken and see it lived out
by someone who matters most to me,
then I feel more alive than ever.

Small things,
they don't mean much at all,
until they somehow find their way
into my life,
through a splinter,
through a flower,
through a word,
like love.


There's one of them. I'll post some more of them later. I hope you like the art work that I slaved over. Naw, just kidding.

"Forbidden Love"

Hair like a raven's wing,
eyes like golden fire.

Voice like silken heat,
his name speaks of my desire.

Lips like Cupid's bow,
bones like carved marble.

Lashes like black lace,
he is nothing but my forbidden sanctuary.

Nothing but hidden grace.

"Dark Lover"

I loved not the night but he drew me,
with dark whispers beckoned me near.
His shadows I though would subdue me,
enslave me in chains made of fear.

I wished not to look but he wooed me,
his stront, gentle hand turned my face.
I opened my eyes and saw beauty,
where I'd seen but a desolate place.

I fled from the night but he chased me,
he caught me in arms of dark steel.
I sighed as I let him embrace me,
in his touch, at last, I could feel.

I turned to the night and he kissed me,
on his lips I tasted sweet wine.
I opened to night's sacred mystery,
he took me, and whispered," You're mine."

The night has become my dark lover,
by day but a dream, bittersweet.
At sunset I run to no other,
my surrender tonight is complete.

Is "Forbidden Love" and "Dark Lover" related? I like those two the best.

Chains of fear? Dark steel? Strong yet gentle... I'm a sucker for this type of poetry! GOOD work!

I really enjoyed those, especially "Dark Lover". It seems you were able to allow a silent part of you come into words which you couldn't normally express. At least that's what I saw from them. You have a delicate way of writing about intense feelings.

Wow you are by far one of the best poets i've ever run across! Im a sucker for love poems myself and your poems describe the feelings of love so well. I really enjoy how you use that imagery in your poetry to represent something else. Like the night....it was also representing your lover right? That was so brilliant! Your poems are ravishing! ^.^..
