Have post traumatic stress due to being sexually assaulted or raped? Maybe got a disease? Maybe you got nothing at all but bad memories. Regardless of the outcome, several insurance companies are denying people who have been raped or sexually assaulted and determining it as a "preexisting condition", thus making people ineligible for coverage.

I found this story on my igoogle and it makes me a bit sick.

Full story here.

What is your take on insurance companies denying people for this reason?

Retarded. And that word almost sums it all up. Insurance is meant to compensate you for tragedies that have happened, which you had no control over. Their a bunch of greedy arses, who care nothing for anyone.

What's next? Denial of life insurance because heart problems is a pre-existing condition?

There are a lot of problems with health insurance, you'd be surprised at the amount of things that can stop you from getting full coverage.

This is just one of the many cases.

I understand that. The insurance companies will wriggle out of any hole. And it's usually the act of God line that lets them do that, or some kind of BS like you don't have rain insurance, or flood insurance. Like your supposed to fill out insurance for every possible thing that could happen to you.

Hey if you get the chance. Watch 'The man who sued God' funny story about a man who got screwed on his insurance plan.

Well she got denied cause her story wasn't straight. She "thought" she got raped only assuming that this was from the most probable outcome of the situation. I don't see why the insurance company is wrong in calling into question this woman's personal responsibility.

It's pretty common knowledge that there are drugs these days such as ruffies that STRANGERS will put in your drinks when offered to them, at parties and bars etc. Why are you worrying about AIDS now when she should have been worried about even starting off the situation by accepting these drinks from strange men o_o;..

Yeah it makes you sick but then stop to think, would I really be dumb enough to follow through with such an endeavor? Would I really accept drinks from strangers these days knowing fully well the consequences could very well be dire?

No. There are other cases where people have been raped and they are denied regardless of the situation in which they were raped. And most rapes are with people they know or are associated with. So it is very likely this happened at the party of a friend and someone she knew slipped it in her drink. There is no way of knowing that she just took a drink from some guy. It's possible that they did it while she had turned away.

At any rate it shouldn't matter how/why/if someone is raped. It shouldn't completely disqualify them from getting health insurance.

Irresponsibility is one thing o_o. Yeah it's your business if you wanna go out and get hammered. But you should also be aware of the consequences, especially if you're a female who parties. I'm sure this case could be argued several times over but unfortunately the article gave a bad example. Had the lady gone out and just got raped then yeah maybe she might have a leg to stand on.

All I know is that this is another way for the media to point out the obvious, RAPE ISN'T FUNNY!
