It's true. Read Marvel's post on their website.

Disney acquires Marvel...

I heard about that. Since I'm not a big comic book fan, it doesn't really affect me and I don't know the implications. I wonder if anyone could fill us in on that :0

Does it matter? There've already been a lot of superhero movies from Marvel Comics, so I don't see what Disney can possibly do besides those. It'd be an epic fail.

I suppose the worst case scenarios would be either disney trying to make the comics more child friendly... or in an effort to make it more mass marketable stick their fingers into current plot lines and try to alter the characters in some way. But considering the current marvel story lines... well I'm not going to finish that thought. I'm sure we're going to see a new X men cartoon though and maybe a new spider man, and I've no doubt a slew of new animated features.

I'm scared. Disney has promised that there are no forthcoming changes in any of their comics, but I don't trust that caveat: Forthcoming. Not this year, but possibly in the future, they might start changing things they find distasteful, or too violent. Who knows, they might even try to end a series.
The only positive benefits I can think of is that with probably has a lot more money, so there may be more movies (However crappy they may be.)

You do realize that Disney movies now are termed Pixar movies? And that those are incredibly awesome like WALL-E?

I have not read much into it, but the selling of the license does not mean the owners of the characters property go with it. Just means very little in the overall way the marvel characters are represented.

I wouldn't be surprised if nothing happens at all. Disney's probably just acquired Marvel to increase the age range of their "constiuency", so to speak, just to make some extra bucks.

Hardly a thing to have a heart attack over.

No heart attacks here, my friend.

From what I've been reading the last couple of days, it seemed like Marvel was in a bit of a fix concerning their budgets for any of their planned Marvel live-action movies. They had plans for Captain America, Thor and some other movie and then their collective Avengers movie. Now that Disney has lent a helping hand financially, Marvel will now be able to pull off those movies and have them ready for their scheduled release dates. It sounds to me like Marvel pulled off more than they could chew and Disney's only there to help them surpass that first bite.
