Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the time fast approaches. When people across the globe will pick up their pens (or keyboards) and sit down for a month with the goal of writing 50,000 words on their novel. It can be a new idea, it can be a current novel, it can even be something you write by the seat of your pants with no goals of publication whatsoever.

That is National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo. Held annually in November, it is a worldwide event for writers to set aside their excuses and buckle down to do what they love. By the end of the month only a few will have succeeded, and they will take away so much more from the experience than just the satisfaction. They will have conquered their own laziness, distractions, and inner critic to just sit down and put what they want on paper. And 50K words? Come on, that's a YA novel right there!

I've been doing this for four years now, but I've never succeeded. Yet I feel that this is my year. I have an outline, I have a fruitful idea, and I have two Youtube playlists of writing music. It's time to win this thing.

Go here and sign up. If you like, you can add me to your friends to watch my progress. My username is MageOfStorm. And once you've signed up, go look on their forums for your city of residence. I guarantee you'll find that there's more writers in your area than you knew about, no matter where you live.

This is starting to turn into a dissertation, so I'll make this last paragraph short. Whether you write fantasy or sci-fi, novels or flash fiction, sign up and join the fun. Post here so we know who to look for when the time rolls around.

As long as our exercises here don't conflict with my online time a whole lot, I shall also make it this year. I'm as prepared as Frost is (though I daresay I have more music), so let's DO THIS. :>

Sounds like you guys are going to have fun. mellow.gif

I can never think up of an original idea for a story. I can only come up with budding ideas that can be made into RPs only. =\

I might get in on this for once, maybe it'll help me get the lead out of my pants so I can finish my novel.

Already got my novel idea and summary in order. I'm not even going to try and make this publishable, this is just going to be super chaotic and seat-of-the-pants.

Title: Screw the Author
Summary: Fade and Nick are on top of their world. They regularly slay demons, rescue entire nations, and don't get smited when they beat the gods at Wednesday Night Poker. But hubris takes its toll when they begin mouthing off about how they have it so easy, that there was nothing to do, and most insultingly of all, that whoever had made this world needed to kick things up a notch before they got bored.

Well now. Their words reached the ears of their Author, who was more than a little flustered about trying to find a job while fending off debt collectors and an irate mother-in-law. His right eye twitched madly and he picked up his pen before writing himself into the story and proceeding to unleash hell on the world. Ancient horrors rose into existence, the elements began to tear everything to shreds, and magic infused each and every person to the brim, leading to wars when one soldier had the power to obliterate cities...and so did everyone else.

But he wasn't done. With the massive amount of magic being thrown around, some of it was bound to cause some collateral damage. With a little nudging from his pen, a nuclear fireball intended for a castle "accidentally" smacked the Head God in the jewels as he was giving one of his weekly pep talks to the rest of the Pantheon. In a high and squeaky voice he declared war on all mortals. And so the gods joined the battle with a cry of, "My balls are on fire! AUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHH!"

Now Fade and Nick are caught in the middle of a world intent on tearing itself to shreds. But unlike most others, they know that this isn't some random occurrence, but the act of a vindictive Author. And so they set out on a journey to find their Author and make him stop before he destroys the whole world, which would be bad.

Less than 24 hours left until we start, people.

Also, don't forget to set your clocks back as of November 1st for Daylight Savings. Extra hour of writing from the get-go!

1,052 words written. So far, flying by the seat of my pants, it appears to be about a pair of bounty hunters in modern times who take jobs to track down faeries in ancient Ireland. My fatigue-addled mind has given them a souped up SUV, multiple weapons both modern and medieval, and the remains of a troll.

I got writer's block right out of the gate. I hate how hard it is to start a story.

EDIT: Got over the hump once I turned off my music and started focusing hard. Total word count so far is 1,104.

I've decided to enter for the first time with an idea I've had mulling about for quite some time. Hopefully I'll actually be able to put a dent in that 50,000 word count.

South Town, but it's a working title. I'm thinking that adding the subtext, The Paragon would work for it too.

Up to 1,608 words, which is pretty good for me. I think. I'm getting kind of hung up on where to take one side of the story already though, since this going to be in First Person for some Chapters and Third Person for others. Some fresh air might help me clear my head though.

Damn I completely forget about NaNoWriMo this year. Still wrapping up my warm up story too so I probably wouldn't have started this year anyway. werd.gif

It's the 15th guys, how are your books coming along?
