Let's take it to the next level! Have any of you tried to introduce anime to your parents? |

No. If I did, my mom would probably claim that I was possessed by demons for liking such things, then beat me over the head with a bible. -------------------

I tried and was successful. My mum is into Naruto and I even took Japanese lessons from an exchange student for a while (I forgot most of it though. She is very supportive. And feeds my habit at Christmas time. I don't speak with my real father, but my stepdad just playfully teases me about it. He's watched Code Geass with me before. But usually he will just say "OH NO, SHE'S WATCHING NAH ROO TOO." -------------------

No, not really. My mother and father don't mind that I'm into anime, and they usually buy the stuff for me without me even asking. I think they don't see it in any way different from other cartoons, which is the way it should be.
One main reason why I haven't tried to get them into it is because I don't need to. I've never grabbed both my parents and had them sit down in front of the TV to watch Ed, Edd, and Eddy before, no reason for me to sit them down for Lupin the Third either. They like what they like, I like what I like. -------------------

Just movies. My mom liked the studio ghibli movies I showed her, like spirited away.
My dad liked cowboy bebop. Neither of them enough to watch it on their own, but sit down and watch with me when I still lived with them. -------------------

I got introduced by my stepmother... So... And I must agree with Drifter, it's just cartoons... Just like I'm into wargaming... It's just basically chess(on steroids) so why bother? Cheers! -------------------

When I'm watching anime at my dad's house, it depends on who's in the room and has time for it. With my stepmom, it's Howl's Moving Castle. -------------------

As someone mentioned above, movies mainly. I never tried to get them to watch a series, no point cause after their half-interest in Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' On Heaven's Door, I can see that they wouldn't be slightly interested in a tv series. They don't care that I like it. They started my manga collection. I did however get my younger brother slightly into it. He's seen a couple anime, but mainly he's into Naruto. -------------------

If I did...My mum would jsut get bored and change it to the news are something. Or go "Oh thats nice" in a really not bothered tone.
My dads more into korean dramas than anime. If i -- Heck, he wouldnt even bother watching 1 second of it ._. And my sister would probably make fun of me (Older sisters are seriously annoying x_x) Im the only person in my family who likes anime ._. Well. Apart from my dog. Haven't tried to introduce anime to my dog. ....Yeah I don't think i will x3 -------------------

erh, I introduced the Miyazaki stuff to my mom's BF (might as well be my dad)
Otherwise...erh, I've also sort of shown Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei to my mom's BF, but he didn't really like it...apparently Itoshiki's constant suicidal tendencies were 'depressing' o-o but no more then that. more often he introduces it to me :P -------------------

Wouldn't work out, probably. My dad used to watch anime movies that I rented with me when I was younger sometimes, but made me shut off one video and confiscated it due to extensive cursing in the first couple minutes of the movie. I get the feeling he is never interested, and occasionally raises his eyebrow at me or openly makes fun of me when I cosplay or buy something stupid...like that rozen maiden plush doll I spent 80 dollars on. ....
My Mom and me don't talk much, but from what my brother says she started watching some anime, Higarashi probably. Since my little brother is into anime and she is wrapped around his finger I can see that happening. Though my Dad occasionally asks him what an anime is about when it is brought up in conversation with him. Unfortunately, even though my little brother likes anime him and me have different tastes. As a result the only animes that we both have seen are either old ones on adultswim like case closed and yu-yu hakasho, or ones that I have checked out. The only near recent ones that I have checked out from him are Air Gear and Higarashi. -------------------

I could introduce an anime to my parents but they wouldn't understand. I've tried explaining Naruto and other animes to my mom and she didn't get it, my dad might understand something if it involves guns or military in the anime, like parts of FMA do. |

Eh not really.
I could say that for my mom. Although she'll be doing something while I'm watching it, so it's not really introducing it... But I suppose I could introduce Gurren Lagann to my dad. Or maybe even Eureka 7. Something with giant robots like Gundam, apparently he used to watch those kinds of animes when he was younger than me. '-' -------------------

My dad still thinks it's cartoons.
HOWEVER! My mom watched it. The entire series of Fruits Basket, as well as Case Closed. Case Closed became her favorite show, she'd wake up at 4 am to watch it -------------------

I tried introducing shows. My mom liked FMA, she didn't really watch it but liked the concept and story of it. They didn't mind I liked it back when I was 14/15.
My mom still doesn't mind that I like it, but my dad now thinks it's too much so I don't tell much of it. And whenever I tell my mom xD Well...lets say if I SHOW her something I watch, usually it's shows like Clannad and stuff, she gets all weird on me and says "Ooh look at all the cute girls is this why you watch this show?" I'm like ugh never mind hahaha and I get all embarrassed!~ SO I don't really show her too much anymore also. And if they found out about my new obsession over Kipi, I'd probably be in huge trouble, they'd think I'm looking at things I shouldn't be? xD -------------------
Thanks for the sig Kurinshin<3 |

My dad's into Dragonball. For some unknown reason, he likes the show after watching it with my brother one Saturday afternoon-- like, a few years ago. Kinda explains why he hates the new Dragonball movie. But then again, I haven't watched that so I wouldn't know.
My mom-- meh. Not gonna bother. -------------------

I think my parents would enjoy some Studio Ghibli movies, but they don't watch a lot of TV in general, so they would never get into any particular show.
I remember watching a DBZ movie one time and my dad was there. I wasn't trying to introduce him to it, he was just there, lol. But anyway, he was like "doesn't anyone ever die in this show?" Ironically, that was the movie where Trunks became super saiyan and Gohan actually did die, but I don't think my dad watched it long enough to see that part, lol. |
