I vote for Sig #: 2
I like the rip on it, sort of makes it look like a post card or something, it seems to best express summer the best, the sunflower being an obvious one. The general (washed out) nature of it yells 'sun!' more so then the others, also sort of reminds me of some places back in Texas xD The colour scheme is that of a summer I can more relate to, a sort of stagnant hot time, rather then the beach summer type that #1 and 4 suggest. I'll say that I vote for 2 because it is a summer I can most recognize, and does so the most naturally. -------------------

1) Not bad for two renders. Still looks like it could use more blending. Like cardboard figures standing out.
2) Nice, aged, weathered, look to it. Hardly any sign of edit. Either it's a very well carried out sig, or just a picture taken and given a quick photoshop edit... 3) Woo KAF. That pretty much outlines my summer. Not much else going on in the pic. 4) Wow, seriously? IT'S NOT EVEN THE COLOR OF THE SKY, and that light, IT'S NOT THAT BRIGHT!!! It's sad to see how this competition has died down recently. #1 GMV - simply because it looks like it took the most effort |

#2 GMV It reminds me the most of summer, and, to be more exact, the part of summer that's just about to head into the fall. The sun's shining and there's still grass to be seen. The sig is simple, but not too simple, not to mention the little tear is a nice touch. Kind of like it's an old photo or a postcard. Some sort of border may have been nice to have. 1) Other than the girls wearing bikinis, it doesn't really make me think "summer." People wear swimsuits in the spring too. It's not a bad sig at all though, and the background is nicely done. 3) This one made me chuckle (in a good way). Cool idea to put the KAF forum on her screen, but the text to the right kind of killed the sig. Way too bright and colorful, not to mention the font chosen is boring. 4) There's--not really much I can say about this one. This sig is what I was referring to with the "too simple" before. Not much to this sig. Blue with some dark lines, lens flare, and text. I mean if it looked like water, I guess that would be summer? But then the lens flare doesn't really work at all where it is. -------------------

#2 GMV, it portrays the theme of summer very well. I don't know how much time was put into it, but compared to all the other sigs, this one gives you the strongest impression of summer. The sky, the sunflower, the dusty feel of it all gives this feeling. Since this competition is about how well the sig complements the theme, and not how much technical skill or effort put in, #2 GMV.
#1- Has the technical merit there, however, something just doesn't match up to me. I'm thinking it might be the background. It's nicely done, however, the lighting on the right suggests that it's sunny. The lighting background to the left suggests that it's dusk or dawn. This for me seems to break the flow of the sig. If appropriate changes made to either side (ie color of lighting of the light on the right side or the color of the sky on the right) it would greatly help the sig and make it better than #2 IMHO. #3- Nice and smart. But the text kinda kills the entire thing. Would've better if the text was left out and something else replaced there (a background, window of outside? maybe? dunno.) #4- Um, I'm not sure if that's the ocean or the sky. The random lens flare is probably supposed to be the sun, but doesn't work for me. -------------------

#2 GMV
#1: There's like nothing summer about it, you can wear swimmy suits when it's like 20 below and it's not summer - if there was a beach totally could have nailed the summer theme. #2: The coloring is great, very simple, I like the concept of it, but bottom of the sunflower looks a little slapped on by the stem though. #3: It's what we all do, but it doesn't really catch the concept of summer, plus a fractual brush over a white background with a picture slapped on isn't really anything too complex. o.o #4: Looks like you're somewhere deep under water, could be summer, might not, there's just nothing happening though. Lol, before I edited, it said #5 GMV. xD Iunno how that happened. This post has been edited by Sakon and Ukon on 2009-07-28, 10:47 PM |
