"Oh, christ no!" Roger whined, smacking his forehead with the palm of his hand. He'd barely just gotten out of the quicksand when someone came running past, screaming of monsters and strenuous excercise. The broad-shouldered boy couldn't really decide what was worst. Oh, well. He'd have loads of opportunities to get killed later on. Dropping his walking stick, he turned to Lenore, and was just about to say something when a white spike suddenly shot out from the forest verdure towards the runner. She ducked, but it was a close call. "I feel inclined to believe her." Roger concluded, small beads of sweat forming on his forehead. "And even though I feel less inclined to believe her luck in getting past the quicksand, I strongly suggest you run for it. In any case, that's what I intend to do." He said it all very calmly, but with the ending of the last sentence he took off upstream like a shot, no visible trace of the pain in his feet. -------------------

Jules swore as she tore off after Xi and scampered through the brush. She pushed branches and leaves from her path nearly as fast as Xi cut them down. The twigs scratched against her face and her bare stomach. Maybe wearing that bathing suit into the jungle wasn't the smartest thing to do. Thoughts raced through her head, blocking out the jarring pain as twigs sliced into the cheeks. There are people... things here. And they want to kill us! Why didn't I see them before? Were they here long? Where did they come from? Were they watching us? The team reached the water's edge only to find two more people. Jules didn't care who they were, as long as they wouldn't try to kill them. She held no objection as Xi told them where to go. Sprinting through the water, Jules nearly tripped and almost fell into the water. Quickly, she looked into the water and saw that it was a fairly good sized rock, roughly the same shape as a baseball. Jules picked it up and looked back at the long snake-like tendrils came darting towards them. Bringing the rock back, Jules launched it through the air and aimed true. She secretly thanked herself for playing softball for years. The natural weapon shot through the air and soared directly for the attacking spike. ((Eba, you can write whether or not it hit or not. Don't want to god-mod or anything.)) -------------------

"I knew it!" Lenore sounded triumphant only for a moment, then blinking and twisting around to get the full picture. It was certainly an interesting scene they found themselves involved in. Going the way of popular opinion concerning the proper course of action, Lenore took off in the general direction of the others, running like hell and envisioning a Christmas Eve camp-out at the newest gaming store, just as the clock turns and the doors open when the best new, hugely sought-after console, becomes fair game - no pun intended. But she had known it. At least she had been right. Things were looking up for her creepy-island argument, but Lenore was sorry that she couldn't say the same for her safety. Those strange spikes that were flying dangerously close would definitely not be coming from a happy-camper. As she ran, Lenore reached into her bag and pulled out a choice weapon. That is, the largest rock she had. On the bright side, they knew that they weren't alone now, and, returning to one of her earlier thoughts, she'd always wanted to be involved in a real life action-adventure. She'd just rather she had been conveniently equipped with target-specific weapons before being tossed into one. Well, one she was actually aware of, if you want to be technical. -------------------

Alice let her jaw drop, today was not her day. There was too much running and screaming and near death experiences for it to be anyones day. She started running after Xi and Jules - past two others who ran with them. She idly watched Jules throw a baseball-size rock in the direction of the monster, praying silently for it to hit. She was a slow runner and already tired from the earlier romp through the forest while being chased by ungodly monsters who wanted to hurt people. 'Three,' Alice thought dismally, 'How many more could there be?!' She couldn't tell if she was ahead of anyone, running was using up all the energy in her brain. “This.. This is exactly like earlier, except with more targets!”Alice screamed in a frustrated manner, checking behind her shoulder. She tried to convince herself that she was doing it to see if anyone needed her help, or fell behind. “I'd wait for them,” she muttered, running backwards for a moment. She wouldn't though, deep down she knew she was checking to see if she needed to stay ahead of anybody or get ahead of them. She didn't have to run fast, just faster than one or two people. Alice huffed, still running in the cold river. She regretted ever hoping for a little 'adventure' or 'something new' in her life. -------------------

Perra eyed the humans with mild indifference. He didn't even draw on his power, more than he could say for Damara, who had launched an attack the moment they were in range. Now they were running for their lives, but not fast enough. Putting his arm out over the ground, palm facing downward, he formed the swordwhip, the ice cracking as it manifested from the air. Taking a deep breath, he leaned forward, and dashed. His speed was impressive, any tree, branch, etc that was in the way was cut down, the weapon gleaming in the dying light. Ice froze on the ground as his eyes began to glow blue, his cursed engineering trying to break free and perform what it had been created for, but Perra had stronger will than that. Breaking out of the foliage and into the river, Perra watched the humans run, more had joined them. Extending the sword straight out, it screeched and shot away, lancing past the runners and coiling around a tree trunk to the side, guided by its master, leaving gouges like those he practiced on. Once it has become embedded sufficiently in it, Perra let it shorten rapidly, pulling him past them and straight into the tree. Landing on the trunk, he flicked his wrist, the blade of the whip releasing the wood and snicking back into place. Shoving himself down at the water, Perra slammed the sword into the azure liquid, a spider-web of ice blooming from it and raising pillars into the sky, and connecting those pillars with a wall of opaque winter glass. Their path was effectively blocked, though they could go around it. To prevent that, ice shackles coiled around their ankles, formed from the water they were standing in. Likewise a wall had risen in front of Damara's hair, the white spikes piercing through and then being constricted, preventing them from advancing any further. "Damara isn't it bad manners to attack first and ask questions later?" Perra tossed the sword into the air, where it shattered into frozen shards, being carried away by the current as soon as they hit the running water. "I know it's been a while, but could you at least leave one or two alone so I can speak with them? I don't even see why you get such a thrill out of attacking them, they're not strong enough to pose a challenge, so where's the excitement?" Placing his hand over the left eye, Perra drew it across his face, making the glow cease as his eye returned to normal emerald color. "I apologize for that, she has gotten restless over these years. My name is Perra Islaitha Frost, or at least that's the name I gave myself. I might be known to your kind as Deity 13, unless they hushed up everything. And you all are?" Seeing their desire to run, Perra said, "I wouldn't advise running, those chains wil last as long as I will them to, or my concentration is broken. All you'd end up with is a broken ankle, and if that happens you can sign your own death warrant, because you'll need top physical shape to survive." -------------------

((Not that it matters, but in this particular area, I was imagining ankle deep water, really. And that's in the middle. More of a brooke in this area and then in other areas it widen's out and becomes a river. Any way, moving this along...)) Damara skidded to a stop, narrowing her eyes dangerously at Perra. Her hair retracted and fell limp. "Don't you remember it's rude to keep your guests waiting? It's not like they're going to survive once you've found out what you want to know. And civilization is probably just as useless as it was ten years ago." She crossed her arms over her chest, obviously still bitter about it all. She petted her hair lovingly, jumping on top of one of the walls Perra had formed. She made as if to sit and instantly her hair shot underneath her, forming a chair balancing her carefully on the edge. She crossed her legs and glared down at the white haired boy. "Wonderful, Perra. Let's tell the our life stories while we're at it," she said in response to Perra telling his whole name. Xi stared up at them incredulously. What exactly was going on? Crazy girl was sitting impatiently on a wall made of ice, and Xi was turning into a popsicle. "If I introduce myself, will you two buzz off?" Damara frowned. "He just saved your life for three whole minutes. You should at least thank him little girl. Your useless presence will smell up the island for three more minutes. Get it over with Perra." Xi's eyebrow twitched. "I don't know what your problem is, and I don't know what deity 13 is all about, but either release me or start explaining." ((Sorry it's kinda crappy. I'm sleepy. Roger, on his part, had simply stopped in his tracks as soon as the others were captured. He'd been running on the riverbank instead of in the river, so the frosty shackles hadn't bound him. Something else did. In spite of looking like something torn straight out of 'Final Fantasy', the guy with the sword had just performed something that should be completely impossible. Watching could very well be worth dying. Because of this, the boy had chosen to take a seat on the riverbank and place his feet in the now-cool water, to ward off all the flies. This, of course, resulted in the pesky creatures covering the rest of his damp body, but it was still preferable to them playing in open wounds. One of the girls freaked out. How unexpected. Roger rolled his eyes at her audacious behaviour. No one ever seemed to consider taking the humble approach. Patiently waiting for the girl's fit to end, he rolled his thumbs in a most unspectacular manner. Like everything else, her yelling ended, and Roger rose, dusting himself off in a manner that made clear that he was about to say something. "Roger Arvid Sparre." He said concisely. "I apologize for the girl's hysteric behaviour. I'll never be able to understand people." Gently lifting his chin, started scratching the stubble on it as he continued. "While I have never of anything that even distantly resembles anything named 'Deity Thirteen', I can confirm that society is indeed as worthless as ever, even though I expect our definitions of 'worthless' to differ greatly. Either way, you are most welcome to tell us your life stories as, judging from what I've seen here, they should be most interesting." Straight, plain and concise. That's how you take care of business. Roger mentally nodded to himself. -------------------

Xi frowned at the boy's condescending attitude, turning to glare at him. "I don't need your help to apologize. And I'm hardly hysterical. It's called being suspicious. You should look into it so that you don't get impaled by a man begging to tell us his life story." Damara smiled down at them. "She's right you know. Though it's more likely you'll be impaled by me. Either/or though. Not everyone on this island is your friend." The smile turned into an evil looking grimace. Xi was not impressed. "Get on with it," Xi said leaning down until she was sitting on the ice, hands wrapped around her legs. "Since I'm obviously not going anywhere. What's 'deity thirteen'? And if it's some useless teen drama thing, you're all dead." Damara narrowed her eyes at the girl. "I'll be sure to save you for last. Your impetuous behavior is rather entertaining." Xi's own eyes narrowed but she said nothing, tightening the grip she had on the rusty sword. "Diety Thirteen--Perra Islaitha Frost, the thirteenth product of the MFD Project. I am the ninth and Reyana the eighth." Damara's eye twitched as old memories flooded back into her mind. "NOOO! Rey Rey! Don't take Rey Rey!" a young platinum blonde girl cried out, struggling with all her might against the large restrictive arms of the soldiers. "Dam Dam!" cried the other young blonde. "Begin the process with her as well," said Federick Kinsley, his dark hair trimmed perfectly. He made a few notes on his clipboard without looking up as Damara was picked up and carried kicking, screaming, and sobbing to a chair, which she was strapped into. "Help me!" she cried as Federick set down his clipboard and headed over to her. "Please help me and Rey Rey!" Instead of undoing the bonds he smiled, "Aren't you excited? You'll get to help save the world." "No! NO I don't want to save the world. I want to go home to mommy and daddy," she exclaimed. "Now hold still. This won't hurt a bit." He gestured to one of the soldiers to turn her head and keep her bucking body still. A sudden bloodcurdling scream echoed from the next room. "REY REY, I--" But she was cut off as Federick pressed a metal syringe to her neck and pressed a small button sending a liquid into her bloodstream. She froze, eyes wide open, as a searing pain spread through her body. But she was unable to move her limbs, and thereby unable to stop or move out of the way of the needles she saw descending upon her body, and all at once, they punctured her skin at multiple points, releasing other substances into her body and then two more needles came into view. They were long and sharp and heading straight for her face. She tried to shut her eyes but alas she couldn't. The elongated needles went right into her eyes and stopped. After a moment, she want blind. Unable to move, she did the only thing she could do. She screamed as loud and long as she could as the various substances mixed, causing her to feel as if she were burning alive. She'd never felt such intense pain in her life. Tears streamed down her face as the torture continued. 'Why?' she thought. 'I'm only ten years old. What have I done to deserve this?' More than anything, at the moment in time, she wanted to die. "The Mass Functional Destructive Project was a project passed by the Mitage government after Federick Kinsley discovered a process that could give children and teenagers between the ages of six and seventeen immense power. The purpose was so that they could win the stalemate they were in during their war with Reyora. All of it was so we could fight a war in place of them. "However, by the time the Reyora forces were destroyed, we, the children, had managed to break down the artificial boundaries they'd set up so that they could control us. We began to think for ourselves once again. And most of us wanted revenge for the pain we were put through for the sake of someone else's selfish reasons. But the humans didn't care. They were still only concerned about their own problems. Fathers and mothers began killing their own children. What few were not killed or destroyed were rounded up and moved to this island where we're forced to remain." By then, Damara could not help herself, tears peeked out of the edge of her eyes. The only thing that could bring forth the human emotions of pain and sadness were these memories. They were still vivid in her mind; everytime she thought about them, it was almost as if she were reliving them. She could feel and hear everything they said as if it were all being done on her again. "And then they covered it up!" she screamed. "They swept it under the rug and kept it from the history books, destroyed all records of our existance, even when we were still children. According to the Mitage government, I was never born. They killed my parents!" Her tone changed into a low and murderous one as he went on, "Humans are weak, cowardice, and useless!" She stood, her hair floating up eerily, preparing to impale them all. "I can't stand to look at any of you. Hold still!" With that, a lock of her long white hair shot forward heading straight for Roger's chest. -------------------

Pure rage saved Roger's life that day. As the deity finished her last sentence, he moved slightly to the side, assuming a more aggressive stance, causing the hair lance to merely make a tear in his T-shirt, as opposed to impaling him. Any aggressivity on his part was instantly lost to the attack, though, as the sudden relocating of the tentacle caused him to jump and scream. He only remained startled for an instant, though. When he once again turned back to the deity, his rage seemed to have been nothing but increased. "Of course!" He roared. "Useless, weak cowards!" He continued, just as loud as before, eyes burning with a rage that seemed completely improportional even to the treatmeant the castaways had suffered. "Just as useless as yourself!" The sturdy pointed a shaking finger in the deity's direction. "You call them weak, and they are, just as yourself, weeping over old memories of things that can't be undone! And the coward is you, who won't even come down here and fight me like a man! I have pointed no guns at anyone, and I am not responsible for your suffering! You are, wallowing in self-pity and uncontrolledly lashing out at everything! You have no right revenge, who can't even take it against those who wronged you in the first place!" There was no defiance in his voice, simply pure and honest rage as he pointed his finger towards the long-haired one. -------------------

Randee still travelling on the metallic beast he had slept on came to a sudden halt. In the distance he could hear several familiar sounds of machines and cranes, bangs and other sounds familiar to a citys industrial quota. His face lightened at the thought of being finally saved but as he finally spotted what the cranes were operating on he suddenly started to panic. Other parts of the ship he had been travelling on had been recovered already. A mast here, cabling their, all being churned up and melted down. He could not see much more than this yard but it was enough and so he jumped off. Randee wondered into the forest around this yard and approached it discreetly from one of its overgrown boundaries. Many bots were busy striping down, melting then recasting parts of metal here and raw materials their. Most was not from his ship but others unknown sources but while he was their, he spotted what looked like a harpoon of some sort. The pole was 5 foot with a tapered end. The handle was damaged and the pole was bent slightly to one side but it looked like it could come in handy. Randee picked it up. Randee slipped back into the forest with only the intention of getting away from the yard as quickly as possible. He walked quickly at first but soon tired as the path ahead of him was thick with vegetation, requiring him to push it aside and ending up walking very slowly. It was their that he passed a shallow river. He started to wade through it when he noticed that the water was unusually cold. While the waterways on this island are refreshing, this one is rather chilling Randee pondered. He stopped around a third into the brook and watched as the water lazily flowed past him. He restarted to wade across again, when he realised he had no clue what was making the water cold. Unknown to him, upstream some of the water had been turned to ice but for now that event was still a bit far off for Randee to see. Randee wanted to return to the coast and going down stream would do that but the temperature of the water had since intrigued him. While standing on the opposite side of the stream he knelt down to splash this water onto his face. He smiled as it immediately cooled his sweaty and darkened face before moving upstream, with his mood somewhat refreshed. -------------------

Alice's eyes were downcast, she was staring at the water and shaking in fear. She'd tried to gently pull her leg out of the chain, but stopped quickly when she realized that it was hopeless. She'd listened carefully to the talking deities, she felt sorry for them, but was that any reason to try and kill everyone – even those not related to the incident? She jumped, turning to look at Roger. He'd been talking and the deity with the long hair had tried to stab him, Lord knows how he'd managed to dodge it so well. Alice narrowed her eyes at him, her fear of death being forgotten. His words had irritated her, she didn't think that society was worthless. Not all of it anyway. It could be improved, but not every aspect of humanity was trash. “It's not weak to remember and it isn't weak to cry over it!” Alice's voice was strong, although still frightened, “I don't who you are or anything about you, but if you keep going on like that you're going to get us all killed faster! Plus, what do you think would happen if she came down here and 'fought you like a man'?! She'd kill you, or do you think you could win against the hair wielding woman who is obviously angry?!” She turned to the long haired deity, eyes still narrowed slightly. “Although, I agree that your 'revenge' isn't even real revenge. We didn't have anything to do with your... your stupid Deity Thirteen, so why take it out on us?” Alice grimaced somewhat, finishing her sentence. Ironic how she'd just told someone else off, only to basically do exactly what he'd done. Alice looked back to the water, adding in a final note to what she thought was her death warrant. “Humans aren't weak.” -------------------

Listening to Damara recount the memories of when they had been nothing but killing machines, the beast inside Pehra longed to be set free, to let these human's blood stain the river red as the ice tore them apart. But he subdued it, he had no use for those memories any longer. These humans were not the ones that were responsible, for if they were, nothing would stop him from exacting revenge. "What you say isn't true, humans are weak. It's the reason they created us, because they could not accomplish their goals on their own. They were such worms they took us when we were mere children and made us into killing machines. We had no choice, and no other option. You can't imagine the turmoil of being told to kill someone in cold blood, and your innocence is stripped away without care. We had no chance to be normal children, because humans were weak." --------------------------------- "Kill them." The voice resonated through Pehra's head. He was on his knees and crying uncontrollably, with the surrounding area splattered with red and body parts of various people. Around him ice jutted out of the ground, with the corpses of humans still impaled on them. The town was in ruins after his attack, most of them didn't even have the chance to run as the winter glass stole their lives, coming from every angle. His black leather clothes were hard and stiff from the gore caked into it and dried. In front of him were a cluster of huddled villagers, begging for their lives. He wished he could spare them, but his insidious captors would allow no such thing. His arms began to move of their own accord and he could only watch helplessly as his sword reformed from shattered ice. Lunging forward the blade snaked from its hilt and into the cluster, slicing them apart with ease as the people screamed in agony. Drawing the blade back, it solidified back into its sword form, dripping with crimson blood. Then something seemed to snap inside Pehra, and his mouth drew back into a feral growl, the sharp incisors bared. His emerald eyes darkened and glowed, his anger fueling the cursed power. He could move his own limbs now, and the mental voice was gone. somehow he had broken free of the control, and was now in command of his own actions. And one thought echoed relentlessly throughout his mind as the ice armor around him grew into a wild form, making him resembles a dragon. Revenge. ------------------------------------- Turning to the man that had drawn Damara's ire, Pehra cooly said, "I cannot stop her from attacking Roger Sparre, it is in her blood. Blame the ones who made us. Not every Deity has the willpower to resist their calling." Waving his hand in the air, the ice chains melted back into the water, freeing the former prisoners. Lowering the ice walls as well as releasing the rest of Damara's hair, Pehra said, "If you do not wish to be killed, then I would ask you to follow me. I would like to hear what has become of the world that cast us out. However I offer fair warning, run if you will but not every Deity will recognize the fact that you had nothing to do with our exile." There was nothing he could do to help the man, Damara was in a lethal mood and if Pehra intervened she might very well kill him. Maybe once she had taken care of the man her desire for killing would be satiated enough to leave the others alone. Beginning to walk through the river, Pehra halted and turned his back, saying, "But if you happen to have had a hand in making us what we are today, then run now. For if I ever find out, death will be a paradise when I'm through with you." Splashing through the water again, Pehra began to weave his way downstream. He was heading for a cave he went to for some quiet time, and hopefully at least one of the humans would follow him. -------------------

"Who made the people believe that innocence is a good thing?" Roger said out loud to noone, voice cracked as his head slowly shook. As he continued, his entire body began to tremble. "To think that human cowardice and weakness has brought *me* of all people to pay. What am I, Jesus incarnate?" His voice oozed bitter irony. Not even looking up, he pointed to the girl that had contradicted him. "You are wrong, and fact will not bend to your will." Roger stated. "Humans are just as weak as these ones claim, and worse. Even those that have in some small way escaped the inherent weakness that is the human psyche will be chained to the weakness of the human body. Watch me die, and tell me this isn't so." He growled, then looked back up at the hairy one. "Attack me then, coward, and watch human incompetence spiral, rather than coming full circle." -------------------

Damara smiled evilly. His insults were falling on deaf ears. "So you're calling me weak? Yes, I'm so amazingly weak that I've been single-handedly responsible for wiping out entire cities of humans. So if you're ready to stop acting the hero, I'm ready to kill you." She didn't wait for much of a response as she drew back her lance of hair again and shot it forward once again aiming for his chest. The thing that fell was not red. It was not heavy, but rather light and feathery. It floated down to the ground and made no sound as it landed. Damara's mouth was open in shock. "He may be a bit of a headstrong, stubborn jerk, but that doesn't make it right for you to kill him. And he does have a point. What good will killing us do because we weren't the ones who killed your parents and your innocence or whatever." Damara, however, was not listening. She was instead staring at the long glistening strands that lay at the girl's feet. The sword she held was still slightly raised. When Damara finally looked up from the pile of hair on the ground, her eyes were filled with a murderous rage. "You," she hissed, venemously. Xi didn't wait around to hear the rest of her response. "I just saved your butt and risked my own. You can show your thanks by not acting like a heroic a-hole and just running. Unless you want to die. I'm not saving you twice." However, Xi had underestimated the swift speed of the deity's hair and soon found the white strand coiling around her arm. It yanked her back and raised her up, another lock curling around her neck. "Tch," she gasped angrily as she kicked helplessly at the white haired woman. If she didn't get out soon, the woman would probably crush every bone in her body. She seemed to really value you her hair. Another coil began to snake it's way up her leg and up her mid-section. She let out a scream before hair, curling up from her neck, covered her mouth. She was scared, but all she had to do was get a clean shot with her sword and she could escape. She twisted the sword in her hand, trying to get the tip of it to the lock by her leg. If she could free her leg, she could use it as leverage to get some of the other locks off. Just as she'd positioned it right, however, Xi was startled as she suddenly started moving backwards at breakneck speed. Her eyes widened in fair and she let out a muffled scream that turned into a grunt as she was slammed against the trunk of a large tree. A red stain suddenly stained the perfectly white hair holding her hostage. "YAAAAAAAAAA!" the enraged deity yelled as a particularly large lock sharpened like a lance came flying towards her. Xi's eyes widened again and she scrambled, flailing the sword, struggling to cut something, anything that would help her. Her sword made contact with something but since none of her limbs were free it was evidently nothing of use to her. The hair was covering her nose now too. Finally, her flailing arm managed to slice the lock holding her leg. Wrestling her leg up, Xi twisted her body and barely managed to avoid being impaled though it clipped her shoulder. Pushing down on the hairrope she'd managed to get her foot on top of, she swung the sword and felt it break. Her mid section was free as was her left arm, which had formerly been tied up against her waist. Transfering the sword to her left hand, she swung it, freeing her neck and right arm. Now she was only suspended by one leg. Hanging upside down, she had a good view of the ground and it wasn't close but not too far either. She raised the sword and cut the last strand, and fell flailing into the dirt. She landed hard and coughed again, a red liquid trailing from between her lips. She could taste the salt of her blood on her lips as she pushed herself to her feet and dashed into the trees in a desperate bid for freedom and hopefully life. She clutched at her bleeding shoulder, biting her lip to keep the pain from getting to her. "YOU WILL NOT ESCAPE!" -------------------

Roger gave a low whistle as he stared, wide-eyed, at the falling chunk of hair. He listened patiently to Xi's speech, and shrugged his shoulders in reply. "Corny and all, I'll admit to. But heroic? No." He hardly had time to finish the sentence before the girl was pulled off her feet. "I'll prove it to you." Said Roger as he turned around. "Bye!" He cried as he sprinted off, in the wake of the other monster. -------------------

Randee walked slowly along side the brook kicking the top of the water as he did so. Droplets landed on his exposed skin and it pleased him to get relieve from the heat. His mind by now had become somewhat blank as he had been wondering for some time. The events of how he had got onto the island were now far from thought as he just wondered upward with little fear and even less thought. It was then that Randee noticed some noises up ahead. At first he thought it could be a fish flapping upstream or a small mammal passing some branches but he saw Pehra wading across the water. He stopped in his movements to observe this man but could not reconise who this person was. He had not seen him on the ship so wondered if he was local. ‘Local? That means he can bring me help!’ he said with a wide smile developing on his dirty face. He started to approach the man with some enthusiasm, wading noisily as the water splashed high up his legs before stalking to the man to get his attention. “Help! Hey you! Help!...” His voice was raised and his expressions jubilant. -------------------
