I never really got aroung to reviewing Gundam SEED and I was afraid to post my opinions of this anime in the Gundam SEED fanclub but now I have the time and I don't really care what anyone says so here I go. Gundam SEED is one of the newest Gundams to enter the long Hall of Fame of Gundamia. Being the first Gundam series to launch after the turn of the new millenium, the team set their hopes very high for the project. With music by TM Revolution (many titles) and See-Saw (Hack//SIGN), animation by Hisashi Hirai, and those famous Gundams, Gundam SEED is probably one of the best Gundam series out there. In your typical Gundam fashion, weve got two opposing forces, the Earth Alliance vs. the colony-esque people (ZAFT). The whole gripe is that ZAFT is filled with coordinators, people whose DNA have been modified to make them better, smarter, and more fit than normal humans. Throw Valentine of Blood into the tense atmosphere, and now youve got SEED, as well as Kira Yamato and Athrun Zara, two friends caught in the middle of it all. Essentially, SEED is a re-hashing of most of the Gundam universe, but this isnt neccessarily a bad thing. Theyve taken most of the desirable aspects of other Gundam series and elaborated, making sure to leave out the erronious mistakes that have doomed past Gundam series, as well as Gundam Wing in its entirety (putting aside Phase Shift Armor). Character designs by Hisashi Hirai were very good, though a tad big-eyed for my tastes. I personally liked the eye style of Scryed and Ryvius better, but I guess I will have to settle with this. . The mecha-designs are very good, and unlike past Gundam series, there is some very nice CG work used (some Gundam scenes of Strike and Aegis, as well as the Archangel). The music, as I said before, is also wonderful. Invoke, by TM Revolution, sounds strange at first, but it eventually grows on you. The ending theme, Annani issho dattanoni (See-Saw), is very good as well and is faded into the background as the episode ends, which is interesting. This series, as its progressed, however, has gotten gradually worse. The plot has become extremely thin and pointless, introducing some new characters who are quickly killed off, as well as introducing more relationships, which just makes the series even more like a melodramatic teen soap opera. This series has gone from Great, to good, to bad, to Gundam Wing. I dont know what else to say here. If you were expecting something new and original, dont. Its just a rip of all of the other Gundam series, plus it is completely illogical and uninteresting.. at least in my opinion. The only redeeming points are the animation and the music, but thats it folks. I guess well still be waiting for a decent Gundam series. -------------------

Actually in my opinion it was a very logical series. If you look deeper you can find elements of some of the GS plots in real life current events. All in all good review NB -------------------

So I agree that it is logical. The drama points are just reactions of human emotions during such circumstances. -------------------

I disagree with this review. Seed, being the first show I watched from the Gundam line, totally enthralled me as a new viewer. Which, I believe was the intent of Gundam seed. Not to offer something totally new and fresh for die hard gundam fans, but to put a fresh face on the line and attract more fans. It progressed in at a good rate. The only complaint I have with this series, which I totally love btw, is that the ending was not fleshed out to my liking. I think another episode as a follow up could have been done. -------------------

I agree and some what disagree. I did still enjoy your review you had alot of good arguements. I really like the idea of Gundam seed but I will admitt it has turned into more of teen soap as the seasons progressed. I don't mind watching it time from time but I do still mostly agree with what your saying.Good Job. -------------------

Partially agreed. Basically, by putting many aspects from others they would probably attract new fans, but still... Some things I don't like in the show: - The way technological level seemed to increase so quickly...worsened at Destiny. - Miraculous survivals of MS destructions without explanation whatsoever. - Relationships are done a little different to my tastes (this one's personal). Things I like: - PSA and its variants - Designs and music (Good music) It was not a bad series. I'd say it's just not that great either. |
